  • Spam question

    Hi guys,

A question for the IT savvy out there.

If someone sends me an email and I reply to it, is it likely/possible that my reply (sent approximately 2 weeks later) would end up in their spam folder?

    Thanks,

    Mark

You need to supply a bit more info: was it discovered in the spam folder 2 weeks later or it was delayed somewhere for 2 weeks. Checking the header info by the recipient may provide some clues.
Has this happened once or often?

          Hi flynn,

It’s a company I’ve recently started dealing with for my business.

They sent me an email on 15/11 and I replied with a few questions on 28/11, a Thursday. I hadn’t received a return email by Monday, so I sent another 2 replies during the day, without any response.

I then sent an email to the same email address from a different account, suggesting I was a potential new customer. I received a reply within minutes.

I then mentioned my other email and pointed out the difference in response times. They followed up on my previous email and have stated that is was lost in the spam folder.

          Thanks,
          Mark

Yes, it is entirely possible. My travel agent friend was getting my emails, but his replies were nowhere on my email client...not even in the spam folder.

They were on the Telstra server spam folder.

Numerous attempts to allow his email address through kept failing. At first it was because he had a picture logo which was being blocked. Then another reason...but we eventually solved it.

mtee, I had trouble getting emails to SAPOL and NT Police. After three years of being whitelisted, that dropping out, moving to transactional email delivery platforms, etc I actually moved my email hosting. As Robusto said, doesn't even make the computer. Regularly I had bad bad neighbours who sent spam and it reflected on me. Who knew you could live in a bad digital neighbourhood? Generally the cheaper the hosting the more likely spammers will take up residence as less to lose but I also had trouble with the transactional email platorms.

Of course, maybe the new company just doesn't like you

Thanks 338, I’d never considered that my unlikable nature may have caused it. It all makes perfect sense now...
