While I understand it's unusual, weight for weight gender shouldn't make much difference except females are typically more flexible and could have an advantage in something like this.
Not only was it weight for weight but odds are pretty good that she was wrestling some boys with an additional year of experience throughout the season as Heaven is only a Junior, didn't seem to make much difference. In the US in high school sports age is irrelevant in all sports that I'm aware of. It certainly is in wrestling.

That article, and many others, are incorrect. She was not the first girl to ever win first place in their state championship wrestling against boys in the US. That honor belongs to Michaela Hutchison of Alaska who won their state championship wrestling against boys in 2006: https://alaskasportshall.org/inducte...eats-the-boys/

Heaven Fitch is the first girl to do so In North Carolina's History, and she did so in an absolute blowout winning the final match 11-3. This clip of the closing seconds of the championship match shows just how good of a wrestler she is. The escape and reversal move she puts on her opponent is one of the slickest I've ever seen at the high school level and was done at the end of a full day of matches.

Given her complete domination of her weight class (54-4 Won-Loss record this season) odds are she'll go on to win the state championship next year as well likely breaking some more records in the process.

Heaven? Maybe for those into BDSM. Looks more like hell for the guys in the picture.

Love the expressions on the faces of the blokes and Heaven's huge smile says it all...

No wonder the guys look miserable; they've just been emasculated - by a member of the "gentler sex" no less.

Ps I thought they only wanted equality.
