  • My coffee machine speaks frog!

Im a noob when it comes to using any coffee machine and still learning the ways and the unusual(for me)sounds of my new machine.

Im sourcing information about using my machine and coffee making techniques in general from everywhere and I recently picked up a little tip from watching a Youtube video where someone used the hot water wand to add a little hot water to the cups to help warm them. Yeah whoopy!.., youre probably thinking....but I thought .."Hmm,..thats a good idea"  so decided to add this little tip to my coffee making routine and got a little more from my machine than I had bargained for.

The first time I did it,.(my machine is an EM6910 and the water comes out in spurts,.making a fairly loud grrr grrr grrr grrr sound)...I heard the grrr grrr grrr sound like I heard in the Youtube video, but then,... WTFrock?!!,..I heard it double...grrr grrr,..grrr grrr,..and so on. It freaked me out, and because Im not totally used to my machine yet, I thought something was very wrong with it, so I quickly turned off the hot water,....however,.. the grrr grrr grrr noise just kept right on going for another 20+ grrrs.

It seems my coffee machine said something to my Green Tree frog (who lives in a frog tank in the dining room about two metres from the coffee machine),... and the frog answered back.... I think theyre in love!  :-*  :,.... but seriously,..if this machine is not already noisy enough, and now it speaks frog!!!! What hope have I got trying to sneak a nice coffee late at night when the family are all asleep?!

    Here is  Lucky(lucky he is not a dead frog,..long strory) who has fallen in love with my coffee machine;

    Hi Remy
    Cool Frog.
How different is the "grrr grrr" noise to the normal noise generated when water is pumped into the boiler.
I dont have the same machine but when using the hot water wand it automatically requires replenishment of the water in the boiler.

Hi Mal,.. it doesnt have a boiler(she says without really being that knowledgeable), but rather it has a twin thermoblock system instead, so the water doesnt come out in a nice steady stream, it spurts out small amounts. With each spurt of water comes a grr and it is quite loud.

It seems to be a little louder than when pumping water into the group head or steam wand(probably because of the noise of the steaming killing the noise of the grr grr),.. but in fairness,.. that could be my imagination because of the level of concentration I still need to use, when pouring a shot and frothing milk   .  The Frog is way louder though  : and goes for a lot lonnnnnnnnnnger.

            Remy,

the pump for the steam is smaller, thats why its not as loud.

I dont use the hot water spout on the 6910 at work so havent noticed what youre describing about the grr going on for another 20 sec.
            That doesnt mske sense though.

Ill try to remember to try it tomorrow and report back.

And you have no hope of sneaking in a "quiet" coffee from the Sunbeam.

about the grr going on for another 20 sec.

Oh no,.. the noise went for another 20+ grrrs after I turned the machine off,.. (at which point I then realised it wasnt the machine malfunctioning afterall) because the grrr grr grr grrs were coming from the frog..... it sounds exactly the same as the 6910 only waay louder. Hearing the CM pump and the frog at the same time freaked me out because I hadnt heard the frog croak in about five months and the sound (which I thought came from the machine until I turned it off) suddenly double and sounded so disjointed like the machine was faulty :.
Sorry for the confusion,.. but it seems my Coffee Machine speaks frog and now when I use the hot water wand, they communicate. Love to know what they are saying.

Maybe its the other way around and the frog speaks Chinese Sunbeam.

P.S. did check and the 6910 stopped growling as soon as the hot water knob was turned off.

That’s a cack Remy. I just relayed the story to my family too who also got a good laugh from it.

I wonder if your little green friend is trying to tell you he is lonely or maybe he is getting territorial?

Funny you should say he could be lonely. Hubby thought the same thing and put a little girlfriend in the tank for him a few days ago.  He loves her passionately  : and only leaves her to go eat crickets and preying mantis.

Here he is with his new girlfriend. I dont know what he sees in her actually,.. shes a bit stoney-faced, lifeless and doesnt croak like the CM does.

Yeah,..shes not very responsive, ...very hard-nosed. She has her eyes open at least,. but even then,...theres this cold staring glaze about them. I think he should get over her and move on.

                          Thats kind of...

                          Odd.

But rather amusing at the same time. Often we come outside and find three or four of them piled up on top of each other. Kind of makes a mockery of the game "Leap Frog" doesnt it! ;D

Oooh like a frog totem pole.
Well,.Lucky is definitely lovestruck for sure,.. has hardly moved more than a few inches away from his new love since she was put in there. But shes a bit boring and I think hes really trying to get over her as you can see in this pic.

Hes still croakin  95% of the time I use the hot water wand,... its a cack!

In our part of the world...

We have a house that is up on metal piers about 12 feet off the ground. It seems that there are a few frogs that have managed to get themselves inside the steel sections and they love it because it makes their voices echo immensely! They sound really big and strong...well, to some female frog they think they can impress at least. To us, theyre just noisey!

Considering we live in cotton country, I reckon weve got more green tree frogs per square metre than any part of the tropics has! ;D
