  • Damn you CoffeeSnobs

There I was - able to go out and have a coffee thinking that nearly every coffee I drank from a Cafe was great.  Now thanks to CoffeeSnobs I find that I enjoy very few cafe coffees .   My days out are not the same.

I prefer to drink the coffee I make at home on a cheap sunbeam with fresh ground coffee from Brown Bay.  Will I ever be able to look at cafe coffee in the same light again?

I have also been afflicted by Upgradeitis which appears to infect any who view these pages.  Is it a conspiracy??  :,  I say yes, it appears that a few persons have managed to pass this virus over the internet by nefarious means .  Is it an international conspiracy I ask you?

Having been inflicted with this disease I now look longingly, not at my wife, but at coffee machines and dream about the perfect cup.  When will it end?  I have today been out buying various local beans and found myself drinking several short blacks (which I am not particularly fond of) to assess the mouth feel and body.  Again this is not a normal act of a rational person.  The people in the stores looked at me sadly as if I was worthy of pity.

But then I found a fellow sufferer and we spend over an hour discussing the various flavours and varieties of coffee.  The effect that changing the grind has on the flavour and shot time.  We also discussed the benefits of home roasting and experimenting with times etc. etc. and he roasts commercially but has a coretto at home. I was reluctantly drawn away by the ever suffering spouse.  As I was leaving I saw his wife looking at him sadly (and they sell freshly roasted coffee beans).  He was making himself another ristretto. :

I ask you all to take care it does appear that good coffee & CoffeeSnobery is addictive ;D ;D

Totally agree Stan, its all a conspiracy but at least it tastes great.
SWMBO looks at me as if I have gone made some days, especially after i come home with kgs of green beans.
I bypassed upgradeitis by starting at the upper end, the difficult part in that was to convince SWMBO that to start at a lower point would mean upgrading within 12 months anyway.

Yes Stan, weve all been afflicted by it, its usually oj or tea at most cafes for me and then I cant wait to get home for a decent cup of java.
I walk into a cafe and check out the doser  to see if its full of grinds, whether they hand tamp, the proficiency of the barista etc etc...................this transformation from someone who is happy to accept the c............p served up by most cafes to a fully fledged Coffeesnob is a rapid progression but one I am totally comfortable with and now I feel it is my duty to educate other poor consumers to the joy of good espresso!!

not our fault, Stan... you just cant help yourself ;D ;D

as a home roaster first off you dont need a HT or a Gene...but go for the bigger batch-capacity.
get a Corretto ; they are great to learn with, very hands on, nose right above the beans, you can see, smell and hear it all.

put those extra dollars towards the Giotto...
good luck with the men in white :P

Youve seen those men in white coats too eh?!! In a thread title Supply & Demand 10th Mar,..I was also a little concerned about them........
<<snip>>Ive almost finished my green started pack,.. got about 120g of beans left, and so I did buy up big in the Feb Beanbay,...like 10kg big ... and I hope to collect them this week sometime. Ill have to hide these some place in the house you understand because hubby will think I have totally lost the plot and send me away to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and Ill be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and... erm...where was I??.. <</snip>>
One step at a time Stan.... go for a popper or even a coretto first...cheaper and kinda fun roasting beans with something you got for pennies.

                    Re: Damn you CoffeeSnobs

I am OK I did a toured several coffee plantations on the Atherton Tableland this morning, I think I had a little to much caffine. re the money I am a Baby Boomer spending the kids inheritance - so what do I care.

But it is great to have a hobby where the variables make it almost impossible to learn everything.

maybe I should have another coffee - Im not addicted - Im not addicted - but another one wont hurt. Maybe the Peru Grace, or maybe the Ethiopian or maybe the Tichum blend or the Black mountain. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D See I am not insane : :

                            Re: Damn you CoffeeSnobs

I am currently browsing the roaster pages - looking at what may suit. A popper wont because even on a winters day it doesnt get much below 25 deg up here so I am still researching. I have a local supply for Green Beans and there is always Greenbay.

Coffee is not addictive but the making of the perfect cup certainly is ;D ;D ;D
