Re: Signing up for PayPal?
It doesnt work that way Paolo.
The linked bank account will be the default account to debit from if yout PayPal balance is not high enough to make the payment.
You will also be able to transfer excess funds to it from your PayPal account but it doesnt happen automatically.
If you make a transfer to your bank accout IIRC it could take a few days.

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
I have used Paypal for several years to purchase items. Great purchasing facility.
When someone buys from me, though...how long after the money registers in my Paypal account does it take for the money to register in my linked bank account?

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
It helped a lot! I wondered if accounts with zero balances were acceptable.Originally posted by fatboy link=1213998567/20#25 date=1214523557You dont need to have any money in your Paypal account.
EG: **My Paypal balance is usually zero **(unless I am selling stuff on the auction site).
My account has a bank account and a credit card attached to it. If I make a purchase, I go into Paypal and enter the details (or sometimes it is auto populated), check the details, select the account I want to pay from and the amount is processed then.
SNIP
Hope that helps.
Brett.
I suppose that I would have discovered it in due course, if I had signed up. But I prefer to know what I am am letting myself if for.
Thank you for the advice and full steam ahead!

There is no interest free loan to them from my perspective.
Fees come into play when you receive money from others and/or wish to transfer it back to your nominated account. Because of the said fees, some sellers add this to their price.
Hope that helps.

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
I thought tht this might be the case.Originally posted by cafe zeenuts link=1213998567/20#22 date=1214454857Signing up for paypal is easy just enter your details on the website and away you go. I have been using it for years, have no problems with it what so ever. When you start buying a lot of items over the internet you[ch8217]ll appreciate the convenience of paypal.
But I got confused by the information that PayPal provided to prospective new clients.
Specifically:
Based on the comments posted by CoffeSnobbers , who are familiar with PayPal, I now understand that "using your credit or debit card" relates to paying for purchases and has nothing to do with "signing up for a PayPal account".a) Paying with Pay Pal
If you do not already have a PayPal account, **you can sign up for an account
using your credit or debit card** when you purchase your item using the Pay Now
button. **If youd rather use funds from your checking account, you can sign up
for a PayPal account at any time**.
and b) Advantages
Does not require you to use your credit card online (you can transfer directly
from your bank account).
My current understanding is that PayPal are inviting me to make them an interest-free loan and to pay them a fee if I want to have my money back.
Is this correct?

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
One of my early PayPal purchases was for an item costing over $US600.
I did my research and decided it was my safest form of payment for such a large amount for an item coming from the other side of the planet.

You don’t have to be a big spender using paypal its quick and safe, but if you do buy big ticket items then paypal is your only safe option for paying securely online.

Cold comfort.Originally posted by cafe zeenuts link=1213998567/0#19 date=1214363545Paypal only charge you a fee if you withdrawn less than $150AUD but if its over $150 then its free.
I am not a big spender. :-[
It looks to me as though I need a guided tour to PayPal
I got lost in the downloaded documentation that PayPal offers. I presume this is a strategy to encourage prospective users from "throwing in the towel and just sign on the dotted line".

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
As ebay own PayPal its a great way for them to make more money, so Im sure they willhave their way, especially when all they have to contend with is the ACCC.
As far as Im aware, whenever Ive used PayPal to pay for beanbay purchases Ive also paid the tansaction fees, which is fair enough as its an immediate transfer. What irks me a little is that they also charge a fee whenever I transfer funds to my bank account.

Re: Signing up for PayPal?
Ebay have deferred their action for a month because they are in negotiations with the ACCC.
The way theyve worded it, they think theyll have their way.

Im sure theyre shaking in their boots.
