Hopefully Telstra will stay out of stock for the next few weeks.
Out IT dept is busy enough without worrying with yet another device to learn & support just because the staff want a new toy.
I got my own back and threw them a bomb and announced that the IT Dept would not support them in the short term and if they went and bought one then they would be on their own.

I am sure i am now known as the iphone nazi.

I just dont get the hype with these things, perhaps getting one to play around with in the next 2 -3 months may change my view but i doubt it.

Better off with a short black and morse code

Imagine one of the better Nokias/Sony/BlackBerry but with a real API, a real developer base, a good interface, no tiny buttons, no silly stylus to lose, small and no "mobile" versions of software. You get a real browser with a good way to navigate it. I even have tabs.

Even the little touches are really nice. Trying to lock a Nokia or Sony has always been some dumb combination of keys. On the iPhone you push the power button once and it goes to sleep mode. Push it again and it wakes up.

If you leave it unlocked and let it go to sleep by it self, it automatically locks. Unlocking requires a simple slide of your thumb across the screen. No more accidentally unlocking because the correct combination of buttons was hit and calling that guy you dont really know who happens to be at the top of your contact list.

To turn off the ringer you flick a little switch. My old Nokia and Sony required navigation of menus.

The default screen contains useful information and useful shortcuts.

It may not be the phone for everybody, but you cant deny how well designed it is.

                        LOL - well said wotb.

Convergence these days is getting down to how many snazzy but unnecessary features can be squeezed into ever smaller gadgets.

It becomes a matter of technosnobbery for people to queue up for several hours for the dubious honour of being the first one to own one of these new gadgets when the commonsense approach is not to buy version 1.0 of anything. Its really only bragging rights.

Still technology has its advantages if you overlook the hype. It is hypocritical of us to sneer at those who enjoy these super gadgets but at the same time spend several thousand bucks on coffee equipment when we all know that equipment 1/3 the price is also capable of making a very good cup of coffee.

I certainly dont need my coffee machine to be able to play music, videos, take pictures, send emails, and surf the web.

A mirror is pretty low tech, and we have enough in the house. But this morning I noticed my wife checking her makeup - with the machine - so Im adding that as one of its functions now. Thank God it makes good coffee, damn expensive mirror!

                              Good one recurve boy.

They have a very cute interface. I have a couple of mates that bought the original iPhone over from the USA and hacked them to work on local networks. The image browser is great to use and the web browser works well. 802.11 wireless means that in most city places you can use the web without high data costs.

The iPhone 3g has some potential if our local telcos stop being so greedy on the data plans (circa $80 per GB).

Im curious to see how the iPhone3g goes with the new MS-Exchange connector and expect that is where Bolb and other IT admins will get their grief.

Does it open MS attachemnts? (word excel etc)

For me... I find I carry a laptop around with a NextG card as when I need to do remote IT I really need a whole computer but I would love to reduce the size of the bundle to something pocket size (just cannot see it working for me yet)

Whats the battery life like? That big touch screen looks like it would eat the juice.
