  • As time passes

Funny how as time goes by you become so complacent.
As some know I had a accident and have been not allowedback to wrok for some time now and thanks to insurance company getting worse as time progresses.
I rememeber when i first arrived here at CS I was so bright eyed busy tailed and awe inspired of all the machines, techniques and perfection.
After having killed a sunbeam, had a silvia, some other thing and then the Azkoyen Bravo, changed grinders about 4 times, and went thru a stage of building all kinds kinds of contraptions for roasting coffee.
Now Im down to a azzy one grinder and a gene thingybob, roast coffee maybe weekly, wander off come back cool toss it in the grinder grind some flick tamp lock load press button wait steam pour drink. Only thing I do now it try to get a different tasting coffee.
But, having said all that, at least my coffee kicks butt compared to friends!
Can never be too precise, but taking a break from being super precise can really do wonders for your techniques!
Anyway just stopped by to say hi more then anything else.
    So... HELLO!

    Howdy Sullo,

Hope your getting on top of things.

I relate to your post, I tend to go through life is phases of either extreme laid-backness or phases driven by a need for super precision.

Lately, [coffee wise] Im just enjoying the fruits of my last 12 months of super precision. Not being too fussy about grinder settings, tamping techniques or roastprofiles and simplyenjoying my coffee.
Of course the PID keeps things pretty well managed.

Once you get all these variables down, much of it becomes second nature and you sort of forget all the work you have put in, though, Ive noticed my tamping technique has slipped recently, the puck leans a little to one side.......so I may need a refresher to tamping 101.

Sometimes its good to stop and smell the rose-ted coffee!

Nah ... just adjust the feet on one side of your espresso machine to counter-balance the angle of the puck, & achieve a steady, balanced pour! ;D

        Welcome back, BTW, Sullo

We take things in stride easier, and dont worry about the mundane, simple things that used to get our attention. Things come and go with much less worry and concern.

                  Gday Sullo

Insurance (not to mention the actual injury) sagas like this can really put a dent in the spirit. I hope that things turn a corner soon and with that comes a refreshed mad scientist willing to try just about anything in the pursuit of better coffee. Though lets face it with the set up you have now you probably dont need to do much more experimenting (it just fun from our perspective to watch someone give it a go )
