You still banging on about this? Mate, the tennis is nearly over and still you can't put it down but need to have the last say. There are generally six character traits which compel people to have the last say; egomania, arrogance, dominance, power tripping, anger and insecurity. Reading this thread I'd give you at least the first four. Just leave it and make your next post about opinions from us 'common folk' about why Australia makes the best coffee in the world..... or anything coffee for that matter.

Nope, he was simply denied entry, was never given the option to quarantine for 14 days. It wouldn't have been convenient for him (given the tournament dates etc) but it would have been a very different outcome from a legal standpoint.

That was always the case. Novak just didn’t want to quarantine

Regardless of the current rules, when he came in he broke the rules at that time.
and as a result, just like anyone else would have, he got deported.
part of me is happy they stuck to the rules at that time, the other part doesn’t care

SO if Djokovic entered now by landing on Brisbane airport he could have quarantined two weeks then travel to Melbourne with no questions asked? Wow that's rich...

Super fit athlete with natural immunity from the virus is banned from the country. (perceived as threat)
Tennis players riddled with the virus (but vaccinated) permitted to enter and play. (perceived as no threat)

Overseas unvaccinated travellers now welcome in Queensland. Only require 14 day hotel quarantine. Less than 2 months ago, no unvaccinated person was permitted to enter the state.

    Summation:

    Cannot cure stupidity.

True, I agree, and when it was asked, you answered. Sort of like a coffeesnob or a reviewer going into a cafe and ordering coffee and then reviewing in a report of SM site...but not advising that titbits of information before hand or a private detective/plain clothes Police Officer off duty and dong same. Anyway let’s move on.
    Code:
     break
The topic matter has gone and I’m more interested in fixing my grinder or how to get the latest best beans and blend from [mention]Andy [/mention] at BeanBay that are now at the Post Office this morning waiting me to collect and then roast. So excited.
    Code:
    break
Was a topic at the moment and enjoyed some of the information that was provided. Cya

Mods. Are we there yet? I'm sick of seeing this shite.

How about we close this thread down and release the OP to go and annoy people on some other forum?

This has been addressed multiple times, you appear to keep going about it simply because you lack any arguments. At this point it really looks like ill intent.

Again, (1) being a member here for quite a few years and (2) having no intention whatsoever to write a pierce about common Australian views etc there was no need to identify me as anything. This was done for my own curiosity, on a personal level. Claiming that I should have been ringing a bell of some sort is like claiming that a fellow from the fire department should identify himself when stepping into a pub, because maybe later some drunks would want to play with fire without risking a fine.

Bottom line you are just delivering a personal attack, probably because you have a strong political bias in this matter.

We all discuss this matter on the base of the documents that were made public by the Australian courts.

Good journalists should be able to do this!
Sorry to say it but what you wrote here borders the delusion of grandeur. Not only you act like you know what good journalists can and should do despite having no credentials whatsoever in this profession. But also you fail to understand that knowing what really happened rarely relies on asking for statements from the parts involved. Far more often what you need to do is to have a good look at the cold hard facts. If Russian invades Ukraine tomorrow you don't ask for statements from Putin if you want to know what's going on, I hope you understand that much...
And the comical bit is that among all this you inserted your own conclusion based on.. well.... absolutely nothing at this point. The loophole was there, the Cezch lady entered and played based on it. You appear unable even to get the well known facts straight let alone draw conclusions based on them.

I don't know how much travel you've done, but just because you hold a visa for any country, doesn't mean you can actually enter without meeting other prerequisites if they are required.
To enter Australia at the moment, a traveller needs to be fully vaccinated against COVID or hold a valid medical exemption, Novak had neither, as he was never qualified to get a medical exemption under the current exemption rules. Again, you appear to have never done your research on this. The Czech tennis player was in the same situation.

I've travelled extensively competing at an elite level in sport, so I have a very good knowledge as to what is required to enter a lot of countries and it's not just by holding a visa in some countries!

Novak decided not to get vaccinated, which is his choice, but his choice also comes with restrictions and consequences.
This was again discussed extensively here, I find very poor taste to ignore everything that was said and explained and just drop another "back to square one" line. The fact that the Czech player DID enter the country (and even got to play a match) without any fuzz and would have continued to play if it wasn't for the Djokovic scandal shows to any reasonable person that the medical exemption WAS considered valid by the border staff that allowed her to enter. That much should be clear to anyone capable to use his own brain, as opposed to eating without chewing whatever Morrison and his supporters claim.

As for the rest, you could take my word that I have traveled both for work and for pleasure far more then most people and you should try (as in really try) to understand what I said in the comment to my previous message: IMO a country that can be entered only after a long and expensive inter-continental flight should make damn sure that people cannot get the visa and board the said flight without fulfilling all the required conditions to enter. This is common sense and someone who fails to understand that much, or understand that Morrison and his immigration minister actually managed to depict a negative image of Australia during this incident isn't really going to offer meaningful input on this matter...

My only bias on this matter was the disgust at the absurd notion that someone (as in Joe tourist) could legally acquire his Australian visa, buy his plane ticket (far from cheap in most cases) and then be denied entry on various reasons, up to the immigration minister giving the "because I say so" resolution.
Again, look at the case of the Czech lady who was deported after entering the country and even playing a match...
As already explained, my interest here was to learn how regular folk from Australia see this matter. Not sure I managed that, as those who approved the government's stance were far too vocal but nevertheless learned a few interesting things.

I think many people here would certainly agree with those sentiments but were also concerned that you were not exactly upfront with your own biases, also Novak et al. may have had more defenders if his family didn't prematurely adjourn press conferences and he explained some of the inconsistencies regarding his testing results and subsequent behaviours. Ultimately, he should just have gotten vaccinated and, failing that, he should have not gloated re his exemption permission on social media. My opinion only, but I believe that is what set the Federal government off.
