These places are normally hot and I mean hot 46 deg celcius in early December when I was there.
Hmmm.... A nice balmy day compared to where we lived and worked for nearly 7 years; Christmas Day was 53°C. Felt like being in an oven

Hi Redzone a few years ago I worked a shutdown at Olympic Dam processing plant. The shutdowns are the way to go, you get better money and Fly in fly out, food and accomadation are all paid for. These places are normally hot and I mean hot 46 deg celcius in early December when I was there.
    Goodluck in your search.

    Marty.

    Hi Redzone,
I work on many different mines and oil and gas facilities in Western Australia (Im based in Perth), and they are all screaming for people, even unskilled labour. All you really need to do these days is just rock up to any of them or the contracting companies who service them and take any job you can get. Once you have a foot in the door, you can suss out the lay of the land and where you want to go. Just a warning, whilst the pay seems pretty good over here in the West, the cost of rent is rediculous and living costs are quite high (example: In Karratha, 3 bedroom house is about 1200-1500 per week and in Perth an average 3 bed house is about 400-550 and thats if you can get one. The big mining outfits do fly in workers on a fly-in, fly-out basis from the East coast and NZ, this may be an option downthe track. Check the West Australian newspaper on Saturdays and Wednesdays, you can get it online, there are always literally hundreds of jobs on offer at any one time.
Another option is the labour-hire mobs, they are always looking for people and you generally dont have to wait around long before they find you work.
    Good luck.
    James.

Hi, if you get a job in the Hunter region (Muswellbrook, Singleton) in NSW youre close enough to drive into civilisation (Newcastle 1.5hrs), and meet with fellow CSers with the same, marvellous, unpid-ed machine And fresh coffee.

There is awful lot of kiwis ended up working in KGCM super pit gold mine. Also where I work a lot of hydroblaster operators are NZers (Maori mostly).

Best thing to do red is to grab copies of the Weekend Australian, Wednesday Courier Mail and other major newspapers from various capital cities around the country. All the significant employers and their sourcing groups use these papers to source potential employees. I used to work for major mining groups years ago but no longer have any contacts who are still working. That being said though, what I hear around the traps is that all the majors are screaming out for qualified people, in trade and professional areas. If youre thinking of working as a mining equipment operator though, you really need to lob up to the front gate of your preferred Mining Company and see how you go. If you have any internationally recognised equipment operator tickets, then this will no doubt help you get a foot in the door.

    All the best mate....
