Re: 2008 Rugby League Grand Final

I was away last weekend so have only just stumbled upon this thread.

Id like to state that I agree with everything flynnaus said.

There were a few comforts of home in the wilderness, including a large screen with which to watch the game.

Amongst the many gathered for our concert weekend the Rabbitohs fans seemed to outnumber all until game time.
By then a few rabid Manly fans, mostly teenage girls, had appeared and seemed to equal in number the Souths fans.

One of my former high school buddies disappeared briefly before the starting whistle, Ill point out now that the rest of his tribe supplied a significant number towards the South Sydney fan contingent, and reappeared resplendent in a Melbourne jersey.

Gutsy to start with and even more so to not disappear again and remove it as the game progressed.

another supporter of the mighty Sea Eagles here

ahhhh, how sweet it is and to do it in such a historical fashion and leave the Storm team with the tag of copping the biggest flogging in grand final history

There was another team in this game? ;D

The way the Storm played youd have thought that there was only one team running around out there...what a hopeless defence and I agree...it was a really boring GF...

Stoners win was much more exciting!

Well that game just cost Rugby in Victoria a lot of watchers and potential members for next year. As a non rugbyite great team skills and individual performances on one side and a flat tired bunch of individuals on the other.

Even coffee could hardly keep me awake

Apart from that stuff the 250s was a fantastic race and capped off with Stoner getting a win in the Moto GP

This one at least ut things back in their natural order: Manly avenged last years loss and we can all go back to hating them again. Melbourne got their backsides kicked and that would be justice in some eyes for the way the Storm are perceived to play the game. Many players got to finsih their careers on a high note; especially Steve Menzies who deserves any accolades that comes his way.

I agree with Dennis that a close game would have been more enjoyable from a spectator POV. Theres no real satisfaction in a one-sided match

    Dennis :
I usually prefer a closer contest (when watching other teams play) but as a Manly fan I was very happy with the win and the scoreline!

So happy I wrote more about it here :

Im not a hige sports fan, but do enjoy sitting down to watch the Origin and Grand Final. Not to take anything away from Manly, but actually got pretty bored with it as I would have preferred to see a closer, more competitive, end to the season.

Oh well, will tune in again in 12 months time.

Woot! Go the mighty Sea Eagles!

Yeah, it was a brilliant game. Makes up for last year, and a fitting exit for Beaver

I watched the second half and was amazed at the comprehensive fashion that Manly won the championship. To finish off a sporting afternoon I then watch Casey Stoner win the Oz Grand Prix at Phillip Island, Valentino Rossis ride to gain 2nd place was pretty special as well.

    2008 Rugby League Grand Final

    2008 Rugby League Grand Final

One of the highest scoring games I have witnessed where the opposition was kept scoreless
And a most comprehensive win by the Manly club over Melbourne

I don’t support either of these teams but in this Grand Final I think the best team won
Today Melbourne was out classed and out played
    Manly was to good

If you are Manly supporter, you now have bragging rights for a year
Also happy retirement goes to Steve Menzies (great way to finish ones career with a win and a try in the final)

Score for the 2008 Rugby League Grand Final
    Manly 40
    Melbourne 00
