  • RUM SNOBS

ahhh theres one thing I love as much as coffee.. well okay theres a few .. but a biggy is Rum.

Love it.. Im a hard core rum snob, theres nothing like a good bit of rum snobbery, just like coffee snobbery.

Any one else a true rum snob?

My shelf at the moment only has; Pyrat X/O Reserve (15 years), Angostura 1919 (8 years).. and this week Ill be picking up the 7 year old Flor De Cana, along with a bottle (my friends are also chipping in on this one) of the 21-25 year old El Dorado.

Hold on, I have to wipe the drool off my face.. :P

My favourite at the moment is probably the Pyrat X/O Reserve.. its wonderous.. Ultra smooth, big body and mouthfeel, sweet style with hints of orange (on the nose and on the taste buds), oak, vanilla, .. and more but Id have to get a fresh glass to go on.. (havent had any since the weekend).

I love rum, love it! Its art, music to my mouth! If anyone wants to compare tasting notes here Ill join in.

My mother was (and still is) a rum snob. She used to insist on Appleton Jamaica rum, although I always suspected it was because Appleton was a family name!

Ha, definitely not, Appletone Estate make fine rums indeed. Ive had the standard one, which for its price is fantastic, they also have the 8 year old, 12 year old, 21 year old (expensive as) and the Master Blenders one.. the 8 and 12 yr olds are nice, 12 in particular is heavy and dark, when cupped next to the standard one you can really smell, see and taste the difference.. particularly in oaky flavours and smoothness.

Im a fan of the Appletons

I find the old Capt Morgan quite a bit sharp, have you tried Coruba? Its a touch smoother with a similar flavour
