    Haha. I love it.

We should have a poll on what people call their coffee bits... Or not.

    Are you using unpressurised baskets?

If not, you may find the single hole in the bottom of the basket now points straight into the cup, rather than being blocked by the graeme. (where does that name come from?)

I also removed the plastic floor from the PF handle
Its called a "graeme" around here.

The name was actually suggested by the user called DIG.
You can read the whole story in the original post here:

    yep, unpressurised basket.

Interestingly, when I ran a shot, it pretty much fell straight through the now gaping hole that the eject button once occupied (a semi naked PF I guess).

The Graeme comes from the Sunbeam EM69xx series, its the black plastic insert that they put into the PF to protect the espresso hitting "cold steel" assuming that most users of this machine dont know to preheat the PF. Theres a thread on its name history somewhere here in CS

sorted - hammer and screwdriver. Quick knock with the PF upside down and out it came. Not as much gunk as I suspected but still pretty wet and signs of old coffee under it.

Removing the "Graeme" from an Ikon PF

My Breville Ikon at the shop is starting to get some nasty aromas from the PF, despite being washed after each use. These are transferring to the espresso shot. I suspect that it is to do with the black insert at the bottom of the PF that also has the eject button.

Is there a trick to removing this or is it just a case of a bit of brute force (hammer and screwdriver to knock it out)?

I realise that this will leave a gaping hole in the PF, but I only ever pour 1 shot at a time into 1 vessel, so this isnt an issue (would prefer clean coffee over a pretty looking PF).

    Cheers
