Re: Breville Ikon - Pump noise??

The tea towel seemed to help a bit, but i suppose it could be the surronds - my house is usually pretty quiet.
Mind you I am a teenager so I should be used to these "loud noises" hehe

It probably also depends on what you are calling loud?... your surroundings will affect your perception of noise too.

My Ikon makes a series of loudish grunting/pumping noises when you start the brew cycle but I wouldnt call it overly loud...but then again I have 3 teenage sons so am able to ignore most excess noise. ;D

    welcome Coffeeshotter

most small machines are fairly loud, normally i find that the pump is a fair bit quieter when under "load" that is when you are making the coffee. But will be loud when just pumping water out the Grouphead

as for making it quite. you could try changing the surface the machine sits on. eg on a tea towel, or a chopping board wood / plastic. even a tray might make a diff. Some surfaces seem to increase or decrease some noise. I assume it is on rubber feet already

other mods could be looked into, is the pump "rubber mounted" or surrounding it in a box inside the machine (rubber roll?) But then you may encourage other problems like heat / moisture issues? and there may not be room inside the box.

good luck on your coffee journey

    Breville Ikon - Pump noise??

    Hello fellow Coffeesnobs!!!
Well today was my  first day of coffeesnobbery as it heralded the arrival of my brand new, Breville Ikon, found on ebay for cheap!!! WOOO!!!!! My first machine was 30 bucks from somewhere NEW so it is a pretty big upgrade for me and I love it!!!

Anyways, I am relatively inexperienced in the ways of expresso machines (if you cant tell) and I am wondering at the loud pumping noise that my machine is making.

I am fully aware there is a pump but it is surprisingly loud. If anyone has any light to shed on this it would be much appreciated, and any info on how to possibly dampen said noise would be helpful

    Thanks!
Working...
