Re: Presso-Lever action powerless espresso on the

May I ask this question to CSers that have bought the presso-lever machine: can it handle the same fine grind as the HX machines out there?

Am I right in assuming that it can handle ANY grind as long as you are strong enough to work the levers?

Any other info is much appreciated.

    cheers.

Re: Presso-Lever action powerless espresso on the

      In short, yes.
One problem with too-fine may be if it got to the point that you couldnt extract it quick enough. It may stew the coffee, or if the water cools too much in that time, it may not brew enough.
Most likely it would annoy you for taking too long and your arms turn to jelly before you even tasted the coffee

Re: Presso-Lever action powerless espresso on the

                Hello all

Just got my Presso for my birthday today.  Damn, missed out on the coffee snobs discount I now see, but did get a fabulous bag of beans thrown in so cant complain.

My coffee tasting experience comes from working on Oxford St in Sydney were bad coffee spells business death.  My coffee making experience so far has been with the Mokka and a Trespade coffee grinder, and beans from Coffee and Things in Randwick which seems to be a place were they care about their beans.

Now I have my Presso I am in another league.  First few shots were so so.  The Trespade is supposedly one of the best hand grinders around yet struggles to produce a really fine grind which meant no Crema in my shots.  Feeling dissapointed and reluctant to take up more of my limited eastern suburbs flat kitchen bench space with a noisy and expensive grinder, I have gone to regrinding the Trespade output with a stone mortar and pestle, a pain in the butt being the 21st century and all, but I am now getting some crema and a really potent and sweet brew.

The whole hand grinding, hand pumping experience of making coffee brings you very close to the art form in an environmentally sound, quiet and meditative way.  Its like swimming naked, riding a horse bareback, on a bicycle without the helmet, or sleeping under the stars.  The next step is to roast my own beans on the barbeque but I shall soldier on perfecting my shots a little more as I approach making coffee better than the Oxford St baristas.

I am happy to hear of more hints and tips for the Presso and peoples hand grinding experiences.  In theory you should be able to get a perfect shot from it having so much control over the flow and timing.  Please, aficionados, recommend any other links etc that may be of value to me with my setup --- cheers, Beanhead

                  Bean head,
Im sorry you couldnt take advantage of the CS offer. You know the 20th CSer to use the discount gets a free Pullman Tamper.
                  Never mind.
I have put you on my list to get first dibs on the NEW ZASSENHAUS ESPRESSO handgrinder when it arrives.

Can I go on that list too?

Beanhead: if you trip over to the sub $500 Brewing section, theres a thread with a fair bit of info on Presso operation.

Cameron deserves big wraps for his service and communication.

Now just need to get it home and start pumping some coffee through, hopefully I will get some good results.
