  • Survey - for Masters at Griffith Uni

Hi, everyone on this site is so passionate about coffee & their machines, and Im hoping you can help me.
Im doing my Masters at Griffith Uni & need to gather data on the purchasing behaviour of espresso machines. Nothing is used beyond handing in my assignment, its just about collecting info & writing a report. No names are used.
I would appreciate it if anyone could take the time to go to this page -

    http://www.rickroser.com/Espresso%20Machine%20Survey.htm

save it on the desktop, fill it out (however much of it you want) & email it back to me on :

    espresso_survey@optusnet.com.au

    Thanks!!!

    Hi Viv,
    welcome to CoffeeSnobs.

Im not too sure your list of machines really covers the espresso machines that members of CoffeeSnobs use. A quick read through the hardware sections of this site will give you a better idea of the wide variety of machines that CSrs have in their kitchens.

I am curious why you selected those 7 machines (with two Sunbeams which will surely skew the stats):

    Sunbeam EM5600
    Breville 800ES
    Krups XP 4050
    Delonghi 1385
    Gaggia Classic
    Saeco Via Venezia
    Sunbeam EM6910

      Hi Viv,

You have a problem with people completing your survey on line. It is fine where you ask for comments but where you want respondents to tick or x, your bullets dont allow for desktop editiing. Obviously for a hard copy it works fine, no good for soft copy. You might want to edit and repost if you want responses.

I agree in full, and in addition the font and web page is appalling... I trust that is not what is being taught in class.

Could have used the forms feature and at least used Australian instead of US as the language. In addition, no header / footer or even page numbers or any notice or disclaimer etc.

Over all, for a masters it is poor effort that looks rushed as a last minute get out of jail. If my daughter (grade 9) presented this level of work to me, I would have grounded her for at least a week.

The return e-mail address is not visible on the web site and not on the survey. Thus you expect us to print it out, fill it in and then scan it back so that we can send it to you.

Sorry, you have missed you target group as we are passionate, yet busy people.

You put the effort in, and I and others would then be more inclined to assist.

For now I have junked the survey and cleaned the recycle bin.

Re post when you have given the survey document a review and made it more user friendly, that way you may very well get no only my response but a few extra as well.

          Hi all

The site should have a link to some site at Griffith University which states that the students are doing this project and the document should have the name of the researcher and some contact details for the lecturer at that uni. Otherwise I conclude its a marketing scam. The website looks amateurish and generally awfull.

I also concluded it was a scam.

To what end, I know not. Possibly just e-mail address farming. Possibly more sinister and the site is attempting to download malware to people who visit.

Anyhow, since I dont own one of the 7 on the list, it doesnt apply to me.

            Treat with caution.

Not a scam guys, I asked Viv to send me an email from a Uni address and she just did at 8:30.
(we are a paranoid lot, and the net is full of nasties, alas this one is ok)

If you have one of the machines on the list you might want to give the survey a go.

              Andy.

Firstly, in relation to the listed coffee machines, that is only a small part of what we are trying to understand.

Groups such as Coffee Snobs are out there but harder to access, so we needed some generalisations to be able to question a wider audience & we had to choose a price range from $300-$700 machines.
It was more an exercise to understand what people care about when looking for a machine - any machine.

I apologise for not being an IT student or as web savvy as a 9 year old.

I appreciate the feedback that the form is difficult to fill out - which is surprising considering others have filled it out, so I will need to look into it.

I have been logging on to this site & have been inspired by how passionate people are coffee & their machines.
What I didnt expect was that the fonts used would be critiqued.

I have emailed Andy Freeman my student email address & am happy to email a copy of the survey from my uni account.

And thankyou to the people who have filled out the survey & mailed it back to me.
