The Breville website should be able to provide you with a download of the owners manual...you might find it useful.

Cheers for the help, It does have the coffee/steam switch. Ill give it a try with the citric acid, I dont really want to spend too much on it because Ill probably get a new one in the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks!!

Sounds in desperate need of a descale. Get hold of one of those home descaling products (cafetto sells one) and follow the instructions and hope for the best.

Beat me too it (what he said)

Soudns like itll most likely be a thermoblock based machine, sounds like you also have lime scale in it from the white deposits

Is it similar to sunbeams where you have a large switch on the front so you can choose steam and coffee?

the cleaning instructions for my old sunbeam were basically this:

    1. fill tank with cleaning colution of citric acid
    2. run 1/3 tank through on coffee cycle
    3. turn the machine off and wait 15 mins
    4. run 1/3 tank through coffee cycle again, turn to steam cycle and run through steam cycle for about 2 minutes and stop again
    5. run remaining solution through coffee cycle, being careful not to empty the tank
    6. run plain filtered water through coffee cycle (1 or 2 tanks worth)
    7. run clean water through steam cycle for a few minutes, or until steam is clean and no residue in jug

would also be a good time to pull the shower screen apart on it and give it a soak in citric solution for a half hour or so and give a good scrubbing

you might even be lucky to find the book for a similar unit online

Haha. Well its my dads, he got it years ago and it hasnt really been use since. I dont actually remember my dad getting it.
Ok dont laugh, I just found it online and its the Breville Bar Italia ESP4 with a RRP$ 89.95!!
Basically I pulled it out today and went to try it out and all of this white mineral deposits just gushed out, and clogged up the steam wand.
Yes I am ashamed to say I have this machine in the same house as me.

Need help with an older home Espresso Machine

    Hey there,
I found an old espresso machine at home in the back of the cupboard, its a few years old, and very cheap. I tried to set it up today but there is a whole lot of mineral deposits through the machine. Can any one tell me what products to use? or how to clean out the machine to get it running again?
Working...
