I find the plasic rim is just a little too full and usually go for approx. 2 rims down just because the grinds are pressed up against the shower screen after extraction for sure!! ( i can often see the imprint in the remaining grounds)
    What rims??

Do you mean like the 6pack yoghurt, and trim the collar from the cup (and cut off the bottom) to stick in the portafilter??
    This.

Its a sort of funnel, but has only a very gentle taper into the basket. Remove when you finish grinding and then tamp.

If you cut a ring from a yoghurt cup so that it fits into the basket and protrudes up a cm or so

If you cut a ring from a yoghurt cup so that it fits into the basket and protrudes up a cm or so, it catches the grinds and funnels them into the basket in a mess reduced way.

also, I took of the little U shaped portafilter rest because i find it easier to grind into the basket by moving the PF around under the stream of grinds... in some ways this also reduces mess i think and gives a more even distribution??
Same here; a useless piece of plastic.

ahhhh grief. I find the plasic rim is just a little too full and usually go for approx. 2 rims down just because the grinds are pressed up against the shower screen after extraction for sure!! ( i can often see the imprint in the remaining grounds)

Depending on humidity i generally stick between 11-12. (but im still settling in which works best)

And yes.... mine makes a godawful mess. Apparantly the silicon sleeve makes it less messy ;D but i found mine makes less mess when i took it off!!!!

Just make sure you are not over dosing into the basket.

    Greg
Nah Im not over filling the basket. I watched the dvd that came with it and showed me exactly how much to put in and by placing their cheap plastic tamper on top it should be level with the basket.

Thanks Elliebee. Does your grinder shoot the coffee beans outside of the basket and onto the handle of the group handle?

    hi Barista_t

I have the same set up at home now, and dont worry the group handle is quite stiff for the first few uses but it gets a bit easier with use. Mine is quite manageable now after the first week ;D

    Sunbeam Cafe Crema

I now have got a sunbeam cafe crema coffee machine and a sunbeam conical burr grinder. These both work good but the group handle is pretty hard to place in the brew head. Is this normal???

    At 80ml I would gag.
    Hahahahaaha!
Yeah generally if you have your coffee black - you have a double shot (60ml) and hot water

To be honest its whats in the cup that matters. No matter how slow or fast the poor is - if it tastes good then keep doing it.
Thanks for all that info, very helpful. My machine is an auto, and large coffee is default to 80ml. I would prefer to change that value to perhaps 140ml. If the grind is perfect for 80ml would I use a more course grind for 140ml to avoid over extracting the coffee, or should I stick with 80ml and then add hot water?
Try it... It is whats in the cup that counts and the only way you will know is to try it..

At 80ml I would gag... But that is why it is up to the person with the cup..
