Thanks for the info, would around 15g be more appropriate?
    It depends on your basket.

Im currently using a Synesso double basket and dont go less than 16g.
I go up as far as 21g.

The dose (grams) is a variable.
The grind fineness is another variable.
    All variables change results.
Only change one variable at a time to get where you want.

More coffee or finer grind will slow down a pour.
Less coffee or a courser grind will speed up a pour.

If youve exhausted all grind settings with no luck I suggest you stick to one setting and varying the dose.
A good set of scales will help with this.

as far as Im aware, the "standard" size coffee dose is approximately 7 grams dry, 14 for a double, and 21 for a triple

I know some people play with updosing and downdosing, but really, if you arent sure whats going on, Id suggest setting it so that youre getting approximately what is standard and working out from that

Using a double basket  you should be aiming for 60ish mls in 30 ish seconds and 10g sounds like a very small dose IMHO

With the goal being a single shot of 30ml in about 30 seconds (using the double basket), is a dose of around 10g of coffee a reasonable starting point?

Just using the "automatic shot" the grinder appears to deliver a pretty constant weight when measured on Electronic scales.

I know it will end up going through a lot of coffee, but find the setting where it chokes (17 you said) then go one click coarser (in which there are 2 clicks per setting on the LCD), dose exactly the same amount (use scales if you have them) and pour. If it chokes or is too slow, go a click coarser again and so on till you find it.
There shouldnt be a setting where one click gushes and the next click finer chokes on the BCG800, unless theres something wrong with the grinder.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have tried it on many settings including 15.
    And?

There should be some sort of progression between "too fast" through "slightly quicker then I like" to "just about perfect" right along to "Damn, its clagged the pour again"

Unless your grinder is totally busted, you should be able to find some sort of happy medium that is close enough to the 30 second pour that has a repeatable attempt

Only other answer I can think of is youre somehow blocking the holes in the basket by tamping too hard, which is unlikely.

Obvious question would be did you try the grind setting at 15?

    Sunbeam EM4800+Breville BCG800

Hi All, I have recently purchased a EM4800 (to replace a broken Cafe Roma) and subsequently purchased a BCG800. In addition, I am using the Breville BSWF100 NP double shot filter.

Today, I purchased roasted beans (today) from a coffee shop, however I am having no luck with this combination.

I have set the grinder to 13 grind setting,1 shot, maximum grind amount, however it seems the pour is too fast.

A finer grinding setting than this (say 17) results with the machine struggling with nothing more than a few drips from the PF and fine grinds in the Espresso cup. Applying a reasonable amount of tamping pressure only compounds the problem.

Are there any settings to start from? If not,any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,Jeremy.
