  • Catch of the Day Coffee Machine

Was sent something today by Catch of the Day about a pod machine (I know what youre thinking!). No brand name attached but at only 100 bucks it seems like a bargain compared to a $500 Delonghi pod machine. It runs on the nespresso capsules.

    What do you all think?

    Edit: removed link

Theres a review here somewhere by Andy about the Aldi nesspresso equivalent. Probably in the same boat as the one you are looking at.

Also a thread about pod machines in general

Why post the question if you know what others are thinking? ;D

As the old saying goes; you get what you pay for!  :

Well, for a start, I think you need to read a topic called:
Site sales and posting policy (the rules)
        http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?virboard=news;num=1115338530

        Which says in part:

Please note - I am not having a go at you because of your age, height, weight, width, depth, religion or species.

Found it. Thought it was interesting anyway.

Ooops, I reckon you are not allowed to post a link. Sorry, I was referring to Fatboys post.

I wont look at a pod machine, the idea of the waste they produce alone is enough to put me off.

I have been a bit fascinated by them of late though.

The perception of quality induced by the marketing of these machines, coupled with the super ease of use seems to have made them very popular.

Well I thought this would be good for someone like my Mum who likes coffee but doesnt really know the difference between the good stuff and the average stuff. Are the $500 Delonghis any good?

My mum lives with my brother who has a Silvia. She definitely knows the difference between good and bad, but would rather leave all the mucking around to my brother and I.

So, she likes a coffee off the Silvia when we make it, but the rest of the time uses a ceramic drip filter / pourover. Using freshly ground coffee from this gives nice results, and it is easy for her to use.

I cant comment on the Delonghi machine, but I hate the whole concept of pods.
