Excellent modding. It would be interesting to have a machine with fully programmable pressure profiles too. Doesn't the EM4800 have a concave shower screen though? I would have thought that in of itself was a big problem.

Hey C-man
Firstly I thought'd I'd say that I've been very impressed with what you've done to your SB.
I'm looking to do the same to my 4800, I'm just curious as to what the line pressure control does and where it is plumbed into.
Also if you could give a bit of info on how you modified yours to include these two mods I'd be very happy!
Thanks

The way I did it was to grind a fine tight puck, start with the valve about midway or wherever does not matter, start pulling a shot,
when the gauge peaks start adjusting while the super tight shot is running or dripping or even choking, it is pretty easy to do with a screwdriver use a big cup so you have plenty of time
you can use the same puck over and over if you need to.
What grinder are you using?

Did you cut some of the threads off the OPV before screwing into the pump?
otherwise you can damage the pump!
Just Teflon tape and plenty of it should do the trick.
You will also need to drill the rivets out that support the pump or cut the rubber holder to make room to spin the OPV the repair it again to keep the pump quiet.

not really necessary, and a lot of extra work, try it without first, but I like it for softer beans it works at treat.Originally posted by q3rastaHey C-man just got the the guage & OPV from Stephanos, is it worth doing the Line pressure control valve & the pump speed controller if so where do i get them from?

the pump speed is just a fan control/dimmer from Bunnings $36.00 (it took a few weeks to cook in) the line pressure control is a ball valve lever (needle valve would be better) from Reese plumbing supplies.
WARNING be bloody careful with fan control/dimmers as they hold a charge and gave me one hell of a shock!

Sort of yes- Softer beans are just more delicateOriginally posted by blend52 View PostIs there some correlation between "Soft / Hard beans" ..and "light roast , dark roast ".. ?
Or is this a completely different categorization. ?
Soft beans still can be roasted to any depth, however they are more sensitive and most roasters with start them on a lower heat.
also darker roasts on softer beans tend to degrade the structure of the bean, so softer beans do like lighter roasts, darker roasts work but have a shorter life.
I am sure there is much more to it, but that is as much as I know, Hope that helps.
