differences between Breville machines BES810/840/870

Looking at getting a machine rom Myer- one of the Breville's.

BES810, BES840 & BES870.

Obviously the BES870 has an inbuilt smart grinder. Less obviously- how much do the coffee machines actually differ? Is the BES870 just a BES840 with built in grinder or do they differ in other ways?

I was also looking at getting one of these 3 from Myer as they are on sale at the moment, and I was also wondering exactly the same thing.

Are the differences just features like a grinder and a pressure gauge or are there more fundamental differences in how they actually make the coffee? What does a pressure gauge add anyway?

Couldn't find a three way comparison but a few differences between 810 and 870 (see below). The 840 manually comparing specs seems to be the same as the 870 except it has less water capacity (2L vs 1.8L) and of course no grinder. The 840 seems to come with pressurized baskets if you dont want to fuss with the grind but would suggest not using them. The thing you need to look at imo is what your using to grind your beans... If your using a $20 grinder then I would probably spend the extra and go for the 870 so you have a half decent grinder. If you have a good grinder then go the 840 or 810. If your not grinding fresh then that would be the first problem to fix!

I have had the BES870 for around 3 weeks now and it is great! You will need to play around with the grind settings and tamp pressure to get great shots. Read the manual and follow it and you should be all good. And remember fresh roasted beans within 2 weeks and you will be amazed by the difference.

Last thing get Myer to price match with the Good guys... Currently the cheapest even with the Myer sale for the 870 if you decide on it.

Cheers waza. We went for the 840 because it offers a little bit more than the 810 (programmability, pressure gauge) for not a lot more money whereas the 870 only seemed to add a grinder which we'll probably buy separately later on.
