  • Espresso expressing too fast

    I have a sunbeam EM5600 which is our first espresso machine. At this stage we do not have a grinder so are having to purchase ground beans. We got some of the vacuum packed beans and the machine was expressing them in around 6-7 seconds. So I went to a local coffee supplier and got them to grind them. Same thing. It does not seem to make any difference how hard I tamp them and the grind seems fine.

    Is something wrong with the machine?

    nope!

    Its because the coffee is stale. Coffee goes stale in a matter of minutes after grinding. Freshly roasted and degassed beans are the only way to go...grinding right before youre about to make espresso.

    Grinder and fresh beans will solve 100% of your problem.

      Just to back up Wushoes, I save a few left over grounds to re-season my machine after its weekly clean.

      The pour blondes almost immediately and gushes out, as opposed to freshly ground beans which run through as expected.
      Same beans, different age.

      Stale = gush
      Fresh = nice pour
