  • Red coffee machine

    Hi,

First post. Great forum btw, I have enjoyed reading it.

I have been using a Delonghi EC200 for years, I am very happy with it.
Delonghi grinder KG39, its all good, however I digress.

Time to buy a coffee machine for my girlfriend.
It HAS to be red, bloody women.

The only models I can see is the Breville 800ESR or Sunbeam 6910R that is red and suits my price range, although the Sunbeam is more than I want to pay.

Just wanted to ask opinions on these and see if there is anything else (sub $500.00) that is any good AND red.

Thanks in advance and great forum, will go back to expanding my knowledge on coffee now, Cheers.

    Welcome aboard mp!

If you want quality, 6910R every time. It and the Breville are in different worlds; the guts of the Breville arent much different to the entry level Brevilles (except the Ikon which is a good buy), however the 6910R is a nice piece of kit and is capable of very good results! However if she only wants something red and doesnt care what it makes, the Breville will be a bit cheaper.

As for the equally if not as important bit of equipment... the red grinder...

        Hmmm...

Good point Greg. Plague, if youre looking for decent quality coffee a grinder is a must. Fortunately you can pick up a Sunbeam EM0450 or 0480 (slightly better) for under $200 and then you can start buying fresh beans and youll really be away. I saw a red 6910 on eBay earlier this week, may still be there, otherwise hit places like The Good Guys and see what you can rustle up as a package with a grinder. Youll never look back once you taste it fresh!

And if that doesnt make her happy, better throw in a can of red spraypaint. :

              Re: Red coffee machine

The gaggias (classic or baby) come in red too I believe...
              Other red machines Ive seen:
              Kitchenaid Artisan
              Some strange koala looking thing...

Cant say much about their espresso making (kitchenaids have twin boilers but small) but they fit your colour requirements.

As for teh Breville 800ES, if you have to get that one, look for them at the Breville factory outlets. They are usually a lot cheaper than in normal retail shops.

Or... you could tell her that Red machines are so last season and Stainless steel/Brushed Chrome is the new Black, Red, (......insert colour here) etc; and youll have a few more options! ;D ;D ;D

I would be heading for that little baby.

If colour was the most important attribute then it may as well be a koala shape.

And if that doesnt make her happy, better throw in a can of red spraypaint.
Not as silly as it sounds. Nearly all of the highend machines are just shells spraypainted. That would allow you to get just about any machine, pull it to bits and get a spray painter to match it to the "right" red.

                    Re: Red coffee machine

My next door neighbour painted his wifes car the same shade of pink as her nailpolish.

Ready supply of touchup paint I suppose.....

                      Hey, put away the spraypaint.

                      Just saw her grinder at:

Thanks so much for your replies, wow what an amazing forum!

I could not agree more on a grinder, after you have fresh beans, anything else is less.
                        I will continue my research.

If I could understand women, I would be a rich man. It has to be red.

Thanks again so much for your replies.

                          Re: Red coffee machine

Definitely get the right machine rather than the red machine. Have it enamelled and it will look right : and most importantly make great coffee...

                          Good luck

Live together and avoid the necessity for two lots of machines.

mostly do now, hence the need for a machine at her place.
Home for me is just an office now.
