thought id give an update on my sick gaggia. the repairs ppl said the solenoid was broken.. im not sure what that means really but they replaced it and im picking it up this weekend! really looking forward to brewing again!

btw the quote for repairs+parts+servicing is $158.. does that sound reasonable from your experience?

    cheers.

thanks for the tips guys will have another go this weekend (hooray for holidays!)

I made two cups first then on the third cup the tank was empty, so it didnt sit there heating up without water but it ran for a couple of minutes with the tank empty.. so yeah it wouldve been pumping air. what i was surprised about is that the machine still makes sounds as though its brewing so maybe its not entirely busted, and i just need to prime it? or is that a typical busted pump?

yeah its an awesome machine i had so much fun until it broke..

    hi
    try this
    open the steam valve,
turn on the cup (coffee brew switch)
ensure water tank has water in it.
    turn on machines power switch
pump should run and after about 10 - 15 secs water should start coming out the steam arm
same as if you are purging the boiler after frothing milk

If its second hand, it could be good to take it in as a precaution.
<------- Di Bartoli is a good place to start. Renzo will be able to let you know what else needs attention to, if there is anything (scale in the boiler, group seals etc, etc)

How long did you have it on with no water in the tank? And how long until you hit the brew switch.

The other thing is, maybe the whole system was empty of water and it needed priming. So basically the pump was pumping air into air.

Its a great little machine and is capable of great coffee (with a few little tweaks here and there).

    Keep us posted! And welcome!!

gaggia machine repairs shop in sydney?

    hi all

this is my first time in coffeesnobs, a friend (whos also a member here) suggested i post a question about my coffee machine.

im a noob in coffee making and recently bought a second hand gaggia classic which i loved to bits. unfortunately i let the machine run without water and now when i turn it on it just makes a noise like water is filtering through the basket but nothing comes out..

can anyone suggest how to fix this problem? im not much of an engineer so if its a biggish job is there a good place in sydney i could take it for repairs ?

    thanks!
Working...
