  • Need Help Please - Shots barely dribbling out on my Delonghi Dedica EC685M

*Sorry wrong section i know. I clicked on "Brewing Equipment - Entry level (sub $500)" and somehow ended up in manual brewing equipment. Please move if possible Cheers*

    Hi all,
My Delonghi Dedica machine just started acting funny with my shots today.
It would barely drip out some espresso. Leaving me a muddy wet puck.

So I did a full descaling clean, and I also took out and cleaned the diffuser filter with a pin.

I tried it again a few more times and still the same result.

It has been fine since I've had it just over 6months, no issues. I've been using the same grind setting and not filling the basket up all the way.

I read some places with the pressurized baskets you need to try a bit courser. So I set my grinder to more on medium and gave that a go.
tried another 3 shots and still the same result.

Does anyone know if there's a simple fix with this particular machine?

I know it's not the greatest home machine, but it's been working fine up until today.

The steam wand still works fine, and when I run it (without coffee) water will come through the pressurized basket.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the pump is on its way out. Other possibility is the 3 way solenoid if it has one. Does any water come into the drip tray when you try to pull a shot with coffee in the basket? Yes probably solenoid, no probably pump.

Thanks for your reply. No water appears in the drip tray. Maybe it's the pump like you said.
I left it alone for 2 days and tried again. Now it is "almost" back to normal. It will pull most of a shot and sort of dribble the last 8 seconds or so.

Have you taken the pressurized basket out and ensured the screen is clear as well as the single hole on the bottom of the basket?
Diffuser filter, are you referring to the shower screen held on by the screw?

          Flow test the pump.
cant remember the specs now... 250ml in 30sec?
I wouldn't think your machine has a opv, it might be bypassing if one is fitted.

Yeah, I've poked each hole in the pressurized basket with a safety pin. Yes sorry the shower screen, also poked the holes in that. Looks all nice and clean.

Not sure if you've managed to fix this but I have the exact same machine as well and run into this issue from time to time.

I find that it happens when I either overfill the basket (i.e. >14g of coffee) or tamp too hard.
