+1 for International Roast...shame Pablo's isn't still around or that'd get a tick.....Is it just me or should this guy be writing comedy for a living? It feels like the biggest send-up I've seen for years.
Failing that, the lack of interest in cleanliness should sort it all out sooner or later, lol

I would recommend you start drinking international roast.

if you can drink 6-8 cups of that per day then, yes, your addiction is real.

however if you think it tastes like dirty bath water, then there is hope that your passion will come back.

"not passionate, just addicted" - there's your problem. You need to fix that. My suggestion: Go Cold Turkey. Stop drinking coffee for a year at least. Then see whether the passion comes back.

Just my opinion, but a 'passionless addiction' is a useless thing indeed.

I stopped drinking coffee for about ten years, around 40 years ago. When I came back to it I was fresh and keen. But I never got anywhere near 8 cups a day, that's part of the useless addiction part. That's not healthy.

Yeh, I chuckled when I read "my wife and I are extremely lazy and are not passionate about coffee anymore, it's purely just an addiction for us at this point." Honest I guess. But a strange venue to seek advice on that basis.

I'm just jealous that none of my posts have generated so many responses. Then again it's probably generated the same level of reaction as if I walked into "house of distinction" and declared that sex was not worth the fuss.

purely from an 'ethics' standpoint... pods create a LOT of waste... regardless of how much Nespresso and all the companies claim they 'recycle' the capsules (which also relies on all their consumers taking the spent pods back to them as the normal council recycling can't deal with them). Plus they are notorious for completely shafting the farmers/growers.
If any of that factors into your thinking...

I like an earlier post - if the making coffee part is just a chore now and just means to an end, consider an automatic machine that you can just feed in a a 1kG bag of beans or something like that?

@robertye112 , out of all pods machines, Nescafé is one to go with because there are plenty of pods choice including from small coffee roasters.

The 'special' basket would be for single shots, not necessarily for ESE pods.
You can buy 14g (double shot) ESE pods if you want to make double shots or split into two cups.

I picked up the Aldi pod machine for my parents who have no interest or inclination in manual coffee making.

It produces passable coffee. Pods work out at 37c each.

If it doesn't need to be espresso maybe something like the Behmor Brazen or another filter type machine (Breville Precision or something similar)? You can set the timer at night and wake up to hot coffee in the morning then you can either microwave it or drink it cold when it cools down and just make another lot when you run out and it'll be ready for your next fix. Grinding directly into the basket or into a larger bowl should be a fair bit cleaner and it requires a pretty low amount of effort.

    2. Breville BES980 - This is the dual boiler with grinder and tamping inbuilt, price circa 3k
    3. DeLonghi Magnifica S - Fully auto machine with milk frother and built in grinder.

Options 1 & 2 & 3 would only buy with a 5 year warranty and have them serviced regularly.

Keep the La Pavoni as a weekend machine and take some more time to make coffees. At least with the above options you can still get some nice beans and keep the mess down.
this is also a great answer... Back in the day, I would have never considered a fully auto machine, but if I have both, I can always fall back to the la pavoni for the weekend, just as you said.

If I were to use a pod machine, I would consider the Drink Morning.
