  • Vibrating manometer noise

    Hey guys,

I have a rotary pump HX machine which makes a vibrating noise similar to vibe pump machine when brewing espresso or backflushing.

I have set my rotary pump to approximately 9 bars with pressure gauge portafilter. Rotary pump in a procon and sounds like any other rotary Ive come across, humming quietly when engaged.

    Symptoms:

    - vibrating brew manometer needle which erratically flickers between a range of pressures.
    - vibrating noise coming from the manometer and not rotary pump.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Do I just have a bung manometer? The techie at work said it could be 100 reasons why its doing it, but cant say unless he actually sees the machine. Id rather do the work myself because I dont want to lug a 60+kg machine to work.

    David.

I had this after reinstalling my motor and pump. For me it was the wire from the capacitor vibrating on the motor casing. You wouldnt think it could make much noise, but it was really loud. Once i bent the wire back, all good again. maybe check all wires and hoses on and around the motor/pump?

by the way, i like your timer.

thanks damian, but I dont think its the pump.

As I said, the brew manometer needle vibrates like crazy when engaged under load, causing one hell of a racket. When flushing the group, the noise is almost non existent but the needle still vibrates.

ok fair enough, I just thought maybe it could be vibrations down the line a bit, or touching the pressure gauge pipe. for example, I also got noise on my frame where the hose (about 1ft away fromt eh motor) touched.

          Hi David,

Have you bled the feed line to the manometer/gauge mate? Entrapped air is one reason that this can occur...

          Mal.

thanks Mal...I bled the feed line...still no good.

I may gamble and just buy a new dual manometer and see how that goes.

              Ah, OK....

Probably a damping issue then. You can get self-damped gauges from a number of manufacturers so it might be worth your while to look into this option mate,

              Mal.
