I read in that thread tha this machine is notorious for overheating and burning the coffee which worries me to some extent.
This would worry me to a LARGE extent, and given that in the same thread, they have been purchased for around $200 or less, $1k is sounding a bit expensive and Id be surprised if you dont end up doing some work to it.

    Good luck with your decision!

Well I found out that the Rancilio Z9 is 1000 dollars. Is this a fair price for a machine that has had quite a bit of work done too it?

The machine Im thinking of buying is identical to this (I think):

Except it is in much better condition. I read in that thread tha this machine is notorious for overheating and burning the coffee which worries me to some extent. if im buying a commercial machine, plumbing it in and getting a sparky in to fit a 20A socket, I want it to produce some quality coffee.

    Hi Mal,

    Your probably right... ;D

I have my heart set on a classic, but that might have to take second place right now.

I have the opportunity to purchase a rancilio Z9 that looks to be an older version. It has a numbered dial you can set to run coffee through or a manual button that is red. Its 2 group and 20A. Im not sure how much the guy who is selling it is after (maybe around 500-600).

It has a new pump, 3 portafilters, all attachments etc. What do you guys think this machine is worth?

As for a grinder im borrowing a mini mazzer whilst my friend is overseas after that Ill sort something else out!

    Welcome B00sting... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I think your equipment specification is too indistinct at the moment mate. Try and firm up the type of machine and grinder youre looking for and then we can provide you with some practical advice....

    Cheers
    Mal.

Also interested in something semi commercial with two boilers (1 for steam, one for water). not sure if this is within my price range obviously not brand new!

It would probably need a 10A lead to suit standard powerpoint, i do not mind a plumbed in model however.

    Anyone? 8-)

Looking to buy a classic machine (BUDGET: 500-1500)

    Hi all,

As the title says, im in the market for a new machine (well, new old!) Im willing to put in a bit of work restoring a machine if it will be well worth it. For example, I am fine with spending 500 on a machine that needs restoration, but at the higher end (1500), id be after something already restored and ready to go.

The machine will replace my gaggia classic limited edition. I am after some advice on brands to look for, I have a decent knowledge on brands but not so much for the older, vintage machines. I am a big fan of the fully manualised machines (i.e. lever machines), they are beautiful!

    Any help appreciated.
I occasionally scan eGay for bargains but ill bet im beaten by other csers most of the time! ;D

    Cheers,
    Jesse.
