If I have air in my inlet pipe (machine not plumbed in, running off container) and I allow the the machine to heat up it wont pull water from the tank. If I have to refill the container I need to switch on the machine but not the heating element, run water through the brew head and then switch the element on.
Maybe you are experiencing the same?

My brother is an engineer & thinks I should be one. I am having a great time doing this. I am amazed how simple  the machine are to pull apart & service. Its such a minimalist design no wasted parts. There is so much resource out there so it gives me confidence to keep going.
Picture/s please... They tell a thousand words..

Hi all just to update my situation, I was able to take out the boiler & descaled it with citric acid & it came up a treat. After reinstalling the boiler, I also changed some of the silicone hoses as they look like they were on their last legs. I got the machine going plumbed in. I am very happy it is working. I think I will attack the group head next . Then I will attempt to run the machine from a water container as this is going into my brothers place which he is renting so no plumbing possible.

As usual we have some handy people around and as I am fond of saying... There is info available.. Ya just have to look..

For eg bjeck14s contribution and a step by step blow of his efforts to date..

I am doing the odd small repair / rebuild and notice a lot of people use the whit plumbers tape.. While it has a role and a job to perform.. It is not always ideal..

I often use an high temp anti-seize compound as it lubs the threads and also makes for a easer job, if and when I have to pull it apart later..

In the old days I used a copper based grease... However at present I am using a locktite anti-seize compound that appears to work well. However it will only be some time in the future, that the proof will be available.

So well done with ya work to date and work safe as every thing around coffee machines is 240V and dangerous.. Insert usual rant about legislation and licensed persons only...

double check the pump has water in the line to it as that what it sort of sounds like to me (pump not primed enough)

better if you can plumb it for testing i reckon if you can, then once you no its working go back to tank testing.

but pull that shower screen etc for a clean, worth the time as it might be very dirty.....

you ever spent time in, sydney, melbourne, perth, townsville, brisbane, mt isa, Biloela, gladstone or rockhampton Holme? I am sure i no your face i n that pic, but it looks like a Europe picture maybe like Knightsbridge area London or Paris?

Thanks Maheel & Ben, I got the water to fill the boiler by pumbing it at which time I thought putting it in the container would be fine but not so, when I push the button after it has heated up there was a dribble but no suction for the inlet hose. I then tested the pump by having the inlet hose high with a large funnel of water & then ran the steamer till the pump kicked in which it did but did not suck any water in. I did not leave it on for too long as I feared the pump might be damaged (20sec). I will take the shower head off later & have a look at the dispersion block.

    Hi Holmester

You should be able to run it out of a container, depending upon the pumps condition. To prime the pump, you just need to ensure that the water source is above the pump when the pump first kicks in - this will ensure it doesnt run dry.

Depending on how much time and patience you have, a self-service is a very viable option as parts can be readily obtained from Coffee Parts.

For any further info, see my thread on a 2grp Portofino here: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1248526256
Or pm or email me for questions

    Cheers,
    Ben

yeah your in the right spot ,

Make sure you are not running the pump dry, put the container above or beside the machine / pump so the water does not drain away from the pump

i assume its got a rotary "procon" style pump

you "should" be able to use the container but if its been on mains before the pump might be set up for that, when you run off a container you will need to increase the pump pressure (at the pump) by adjusting the adjuster. but you should get water to flow either way

did the pump fill the boiler ok when you pluged it in?
and when you press the button NO water comes out of the GHead at all?
does the pump strain, as if there is a blockage?
have you removed the shower screen and dispersion block and looked to see if its filthy etc?

BE SAFE THATS 240 volts in there!!!

started a topic Brasilia Portofino Compact

    Brasilia Portofino Compact

Hi I am new so I am not sure if this is where I need to post my question.
I have just inherited a Brasilia Portafino Compact single group that has sat in storage for 2 yrs now. It a 1997 vintage. I plugged the machine to see if it works, The pump appears to work & the boiler works but I could not get the water to come out of the group head. The machine was not plumbed into main water just in a 20L container.
So does it need to be plumbed in or can I use the 20L container? Is there a way to prime the pump without plumbing it.
Who can service this machine (Sydney) or can I do it myself as I see I can readily get all the parts I need?
How do I go about descaling the boiler and the heat exchanger?
Any advice is most welcomed. ;D
Working...
