Aha, the very topic I was after. Just retired my San Marino Lisa after 6-8 years of faithful though at times problematic service.
Lisa was plumbed in, but came with a vibe pump, and rather than sell her or leave her in a shed, I wanted to find out if I could run her in my shed from a container.
Thanks Attilio for the succinct answer, just a water container and a Check valve away from starting her up again.

    Hello all.

Just a quick note to mention, it has nothing to do with whether a machine has a rotary pump (or not) or if the pump is fitted externally or internally in the body of the machine. In fact, there are plenty of machines that use vibrating pumps to pull water up from a container under the bench. They just cant do the volume of a rotary pump set up (and are therefore only used in the right situations).

It has to do with the age of the electronics. Older machines had electronic controllers that did not activate the pump when there was a signal to refill the boiler. So to refill the boiler, the machine relied on having pressure in the line (from mains) to "push" the water in against the steam pressure in the boiler. The fills were slow but silent.

More modern machines activate the pump when filling the boiler. These machines can be run out of a non pressurised water container. The older machines that relied only on mains pressure to refill the boiler, cant be run out of a container.

After that, Mal has the right idea. If you cant see the machine running and test for yourself, you will need to contact a Bezzera agent that has knowledge of that model, and ask the question.

    Regardz,
    Attilio.

    Hope that helps.

    Should be OK TG....

Under the bonnet of the Bezzeras Ive managed to sticky-beak, they all used Procon Pumps either internally or externally which are capable of drawing water from a tank/bottle. You just need to make sure that there is a Check Valve fitted between the pump and the water source, to make sure the pump doesnt require regular repriming....

    Mal.

    P.S.
Maybe drop a line to either Chris or Jack at Barazis or maybe Renzo at Di Bartolis. One or all these guys should be able to tell you.

    Internal or external rotary?

If its external, depending on the brand and model, should draw from a jerry can no problems. Otherwise you can run it with a small caravan/boat pump.

Re: Commercial to run from a tank

you should buy it and tell us TG

i think it would if the pump can make the pressure and it would be rotary.
the issue is going to be how long the pump will enjoy not having line pressure etc.......

if you keep the tank high or have a backflow preventor it "might" be ok than sanmarino i had ran ok on tank and the 3 pumps i had all made 9bar off a tank fairly easy

have you inspected? that other BEZ looks ok as well...... was considering going to throw in a bid
