Re: GS/3 preinfusion through the internal tank
Hi Guys,
Discussions about "preinfusion" online always have ambiguities, as people use the word to mean different things:
1. start pump, pause, resume;
2. fill preinfusion chamber, pressure ramps up when chamber is full;
3. restricted flow because of a gicleur slowing pressure ramp-up;
4. mains pressure before engaging pump; and
5. gradual pressure increase using pump.
Your GS3 would probably be delivered with a 0.6mm gicleur in it, which means that if you turn the paddle to full on, you get the same pressure build-up that most cafes using la marzocco and synesso machines get.
Against that background, what is a "true" preinfusion? Personally, I think that the more important question is how does all of this impact on whats in the cup? I think that people take it as self-evident that preinfusion is great. Personally, from what I have tasted, I think that I might actually prefer shots without any preinfusion at all.
Cheers,
Luca

Re: GS/3 preinfusion through the internal tank
HI Faddy
you can def preinfuse with the internal tank. The internal tank is very convenient and works very well - it is the way i use mine.
Just make sure you use soft water as there is an issue with the restrictor blocking which slows the flow down dramatically. Bombora is great for filters to help you there.
Ping me if u need any other advice
cheers paul

Re: GS/3 preinfusion through the internal tank
If it does work you wouldnt be able to get pressures any higher then the brew boilers pressure (under one bar) before the pump kicked in. It would be a very soft pre-infusion.
However this isnt a bad thing, there are many machines which preinfuse with little more then gravity - dalla corte mini and kees van der western speedster come to mind.

GS/3 preinfusion through the internal tank
For all you lucky ones with a GS/3 paddle, are you able to confirm that you can get preinfusion when using the internal water reservoir (i.e., not plumbed in)?
I read this on one of the forums and it seems possible - might not be true preinfusion but a simulated one?

I reaally want a GS/3 but I cant get it plumbed in due to the setup of my kitchen bench (and am still working on convincing the minister of finance).Tags: None
