  • Old Faema lever

Came across this for sale in Europe. Any idea on what a reasonable price would be? Apparently the steam arm isnt working and not sure what else is wrong with it..... The pics of the internals look pretty good.

    Not being facetious.

Whatever you are prepared to pay. No one can give you a "valuation" on these things. Lovely old thing but not the rarest around.

It doesnt matter whats not working! you pay what you pay what you pay

With that asbestos in the insulation and sheeting... I recon they should pay you for the pleasure of dumping said dangerous product into Australia..

That bay of need is great.. Sellers put up pics and provide lots of internal pics.. So often there is exposed and flaky  asbestos all over the place..

Ohh...  I wonder what the regs are; as to the transportation of said material might be..

        Hmmmm...very nice.

If I had the money and time to bring it back to as new, I would say it is worth a lot - just the sort of thing Id be after...provided the asbestos that AM just mentioned could be taken care of.

As Atillio said, it will come down to what you and other interested parties are willing to pay. Just one of those items that you cannot say is worth $x.00. It all depends.

AM, is that asbestos, the woven insulation on the left hand side of the last pic?     Where is the sheeting found - insulating the inside of other panel/s not shown?

It is interesting and if you do any research on the OLD units and that covers up until not that long ago.. Most heat and electrical insulation used the afore mentioned product.

LA PAVONI well into the 1960S used big sheets of it; to line some of the panels etc.. One just sold on that bay of need. A sheet of fibrous material

If ya think heat and insulation and what the best KNOW product was at teh time.. Well..... You make teh call.

Why do people not question or ask WHAT IF ???

              An example..

Ya but one needs, one eyes open.. It is not about fear = but being aware. The seller was good... In the first round he did re publish the issue of the material.

BeanFlying will be following up for more detail I am sure; as we were both watching and holding our breath.. I want a lever.. But think I will go new and with a sponsor SorrentinaCoffee...

Like you I am aware of ways to deal with it.. Being aware, means I dont open the box and madly start taking things apart and using compressed air to clean.

PS. He indicated to me that he was expecting 3K to 5k

PPS. We all want pics of course and a run down of how it goes.

Gongrats... At the end of the day a fair buy and if in the working condition indicated a Top Buy.

I saw the Pavoni before Jim advertised it and it is in pretty good condition ( said without firing it up ).

                      Re: Old Faema lever

I sent Jim a message about his Pavoni on the bay of evil, in the end a last minute pleasant surprise buyer for him

Just on Asbestos providing the fibres are contained then there is no health risk, the problem is when the fibres become airborne. I used to sell high pressure pumps to cut AC pipe and as any dust was wet there was negligible health risk but there was still the issue of disposal.

As to this one above price is irrelevant for one of these if you want it and can afford it then do it Seriously fully restored and in good working order $3k+ would be expected and might be closer to $5k asking but only buy it if you really love it.

Current state it is more important to make sure all the metal parts are there, metal can be straightened or rechromed. The Plexiglass top would need careful protection prior to shipping too or even get it removed and sent by itself. Elements, gaskets etc can be custom made if required.

Go on do it we all want to watch 8-)

Cheers, like you say, a bit of knowledge and thinking before hand goes along way.I just wanted a winter project really as i already have a Brugnetti Aurora lever.
I suppose were getting abit off topic here, but as the previous posters have said its really hard to judge the value of these old levers. So much of their potential value is based on whos looking for what, and how much theyre prepared to pay.Things like this dont come up that often, so people will often pay over market value, because they want it REAL bad, and realise there may not be another for sale for a long time

Atomic / Manual Levers all get my interest.. The Atomic for looks, the Manual Levers because of the process and style..

Someone with a Manual lever or two should start a separate Topic..

                              Re: Old Faema lever

I have a very similar Faema here (lambro)- and it does have a sheet of asbestos at the back.

I am sure the one pictured above will as well, and it will be loose and flakey- and I believe of the worst type. There is a slight chance the machine was refurbished at some time and the original insulation removed...

A single fiber can do you in- and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Having said that removal should be quite simple.

I agree about a lever thread. I am a huge fan.
