I sometimes use teflon tape on spout threads when there is no other option, just be careful to wind it so none of it hangs over the end of the thread where it could peel off and clog the spout.
    Exactly.

sounds to me from your description that you have mismatched threads on your PF and spout. If you try and screw a coarse thread onto a fine thread you will get about one turn before it binds up too tight to turn any more.
I think youve missed what he was saying - my interpretation is that the point at which the spout becomes tight on the handle doesnt see it pointing the right way - unscrewing it to the right spot leaves it too loose, and hes worried that tightening it to the correct angle will damage it.

Loctite on the spout thread will work to hold the spout on if its already tight-ish on the thread, but it tends to give way due to the heat in the handle after a while. I sometimes use teflon tape on spout threads when there is no other option, just be careful to wind it so none of it hangs over the end of the thread where it could peel off and clog the spout.

In most cases where the spout becomes tight on the thread without coming close to having the spout body hitting the base of the handle, I find you can oflten tighten the spout on further almost 3/4 of a turn with the spout clamped in a vise or using a big shifter, without anything breaking. And it gives a virtual 100% guarantee the spout will never work loose by itself!

I never used plumbers tape on the spouts because they are not under pressure so they shouldnt leak anyway. I was also concerend the tape would just be another place for coffee filth to gather.

    You will be fine.

I changed the spout on one of my Rancilio handles, no dramas 8-)

    started a topic portafilter spout

    portafilter spout

Hi Everyone. First post on this forum. I have recently purchased an Izzo Duetto (Read CS reviews on the duetto and thought this would be a good forum for Questions and answers) This is my second machine, the first being a Expobar Office Leva (HX) which I sold a few weeks ago. Anyway I thought I would change the stock portafilter double spout that came with the Duetto to something a bit more beefy and commercial looking. The new spout screwed on but was loose on one turn and very tight on the next and I was worried the thread on the portafilter was going to snap off. My question "Is it recommended wrapping PTFE tape (plumbers teflon tape) round the portafilter thread to avoid over tightening the spout" This will I think avoid over tightening and give a bit more play on the thread. Thanks for reading
