Re: Rancilio Z9 lever problem
Curiosity got the better of me, and you were right.
Small blockage in the right group cleared by removing the 2 small bolts in the back and cleaning with a small screw driver.
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Rancilio Z9 lever problem
Thanks for the replys!
Interesting that you point out the right group as having the problem as it was the one i thought was functioning correctly.
We are able to achieve perfect shots from it, while the left group will flow free without even applying any lever.
Ill pull it down in the morning once its cooled and check everything out.
You guys rock.

Re: Rancilio Z9 lever problem
Having recently rebuilt this exact machine, I agree with beanflying. Id start with the easy part, and take off the two pipes that run to the right hand side group. Check that theyre entirely clear.
If they are, then youll have to pull the groups off and try and poke something through those tiny little inlets in the polished sleeve that the piston moves through. Maybe try attach an air compressor to one end, block the other, and blow out whatever may be blocked in there if its not visible.
Good chance that some fine bits got caught in there when you bead blasted the groups (assuming thats how you polished them?).
Good luck! Awesome machine though, but watch your power bill
Cheers,
Nader.

Re: Rancilio Z9 lever problem
Did you strip the boiler or descale it at all? I suspect you have a partial blockage in the right hand group somewhere as it is mmore likely extra flow. Both groups should be at the same pressure as they share common input pressures.
There is a couple of different boilers used on the Z9 levers depending on the actual vintage so a pic of the boiler might help give a few more clues how to proceed.
Mine is still in bits BTW, moving house to a place with a much bigger workshop which will help

Rancilio Z9 lever problem
Hi there,
My girlfriend and i are the proud new owners of a Rancilio Z9 Lever and have spent the last few days stripping it down and replacing the seals and springs in the heads.
First run of the machine and everything works like a dream, autofill and the lovely little mercury switches do their thing.
Only problem we have is with the left head. Ill post a link to a short clip that shows the problem better than i can try to explain.
Any ideas what could cause the extra pressure, im assuming its either a seal or something but would love some expert input.
Thanks in advance!
