  • Plumbed in Duetto question

Hi Everyone. i have just plumbed in my Duetto using a Brita purity C filter. I havent used a pressure reducing valve because someone said that the filter should reduce the pressure. Anyway after turning the main water supply on and the machine switched off the pressure gauge reads 7 bar cold. When the machine is switched on and I load the portafilter with a blank disk and pull the lever up the pressure gauge rockets to 12 bar. Is it a case of taking the cover off and adjusting the pump to read say 9.5 instead of 12 bar? Thanks for the replies. Dennis

Wow Dennis, thats a time bomb.

You need a 350kpa PLV and urgently. Id be running on the tank until you get one.

OK Chris thanks. I switched back to tank already thinking it wasnt good. Im in the UK so is a 350kpa PLV an Aussie thing?

Thanks Chris 50psi is approx 3.4 bar so are you suggesting I put a pressure reducing valve on?
          Cheers mate. Dennis

                  Re: Plumbed in Duetto question

Hi Chris or anybody. I have fitted the pressure reducing valve and set it at just under 2 bar but not sure if I have set it correctly. I have a Brita Purity C filter installed after the valve but rather than set the pressure with the machine running I disconnected the hose leading to the machine (from the filter) and connected another hose so it flowed into a bucket and set the pressure as it was flowing. When the gauge on the valve showed just under 2 bar I then reconnected the hose to the machine but the pressure shoots up to 2.5 on the valve gauge after the machine has pulled a shot, I am assuming this is normal. Also Im not sure what the machines gauge should read with the lever down and what it should read when the lever is up when loaded with a blind portafilter at the moment it reads roughly 2.4 with lever down and with a blind portafilter it reads 10.5/11 is this acceptable or to high? hope this makes sense
                  Cheers

                    Re: Plumbed in Duetto question

                    Hi Welshman,

I have a 3.5 Bar pressure reducing valve on my plumbed Duetto.
The gauge on the machine reads 3.5 Bar when not in use and goes up to about 10.3 bar during a pull.

I have used a handle with a gauge on it and it reads 9 Bar at the gruphead when testing it, so it sounds like your machine is normal.
So adjusting the valve up to 3.5 Bar will be OK if you would like to.

                    Best regards,

                    Warren.

                      Re: Plumbed in Duetto question

OK Warren thanks. Im a little worried that 10.5/11 is to high a reading when the blank disk is in. On my first post I mentioned it rocketing to 12 bar and was told by Chris that it was a time bomb. Was he referring to the 12 bar mentioned or the fact that it was showing 7 bar cold? perhaps I may need to adjust the pump to bring the 10.5/11 bar down further or is this an OK measurement and to now leave thing alone?
                      Cheers
                      Dennis

                        Re: Plumbed in Duetto question

                        Hi Dennis,

Your PLV should be 350kpa. Assuming your machine was set to 9 bar by your vendor, the reading on the gauge when run on the tank should be the same as when plumbed.

Normally we see about 10-10.5 bar with a blind fitted.

Idle pressure will read no higher than 3.5 bar plumbed.

                        Cheers

                        Chris

                          Re: Plumbed in Duetto question

I looked at the pre-delivery check list that came with the machine (Bella Barista) and whats written in the check list is

                          Machine GPG:- 9.75
Our GPG:- (assuming thats Bella Barista) 10.25

Not sure what GPG means but it seems about the same when pulling a shot on mains water so Im happy.
