Just wondering when the Rancilio Z9s where manufactured? How do I tell the age of a Z9? any hints?

Looks kind of like my first one (I actually have two) : The second one is dead but looks so much nicer Total cost for both $220 plus a little freight.

Moccopan in Melbourne were using a lot of them so they may have some idea based on Serial numbers, Also maybe drop Euro Coffee a pm or email, he knows a fair bit about Rancilios.

              Hi Ian,

checked both of mine and no dates on any plates. The Serial numbers also do not give any clues as to date of manufcture.

I really must make some time for rebuilding one of mine :

                    Hi beanflying

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at your machines. I cant really tell the age from any of the info either. I did have a look at my Z11 and that had a date stamped on the boiler 1989... I think this sounds about right for the Z11 I have. I was told the Z9 I have is about 11 years old BUT I am very suspicious of this !!

Re: Rancilio Z9s hw old are they?

Sounds to new to me. As AM pointed and the Rancilio site mentions above they were started in 74 and from what little info exists were still around till the late 80s. On some of the exploded views I have the Z9 drawings are dated 83 (last revision maybe?) while the Z11 drawings start at 89 and a couple of S10 drawings with 88 on them.

So from that I guess that maybe the Z9 ran from 74 till the mid to late 80s to be replaced by the Z11 and S10 series running almost in tandem. Not bad for any model to last for over 10 years in anything.

                        Hi Beanflying
Yaeh all that makes sense to me I reckon mine would be about 25plus years old.
