Re: LM GS/3. Paddle or no paddle?
A bit OT, but that move the guy did in the video when he levelled the port......er, group handle. Is that Stockfleths move?

Re: LM GS/3. Paddle or no paddle?
Ive heard that LM is working on another paddle group that still has functioning volumetric buttons for when youre lazy, so best of both worlds.
If I ordered one today it would be the paddle group, but im tempted to wait and see if the revised version comes to fruition...
Cheers,
Michael

Re: LM GS/3. Paddle or no paddle?
Interesting Youtube video.
I thought that the paddle allowed the user to partially "turn on" the flow (by partially moving the paddle across), in essence let water through under reduced pressure, and then later start the pump (by moving the paddle to full deflection). This would then push brew water through the puck at the 9 bar pressure from the pump.
What I see I the barista going to the full on position, straight away (or did I miss something?). What benefit does the paddle have when used this way? Have we all fallen for some voodoo? Cant I do the same as he is, by using my manual brew button?
That is an expensive paddle, and doesnt seem to bring an advantage as used this way. Or have I understood its use incorrectly?
Cheers,
shaun

Correct you are Wushoes.
My comment was more based on providing terms of reference rather than an historical account

err more like Marzocco style. Marzocco had paddles before synesso, that and the engineers from Synesso are ex-Marzocco.

Thanks 2mcm
I think I understand but would probably need to see it in action to fully appreciate.

Hi Flynn,
I found a graphic of the paddle GS/3..
The group is operated by the paddle on top- Synesso style..

Re: LM GS/3. Paddle or no paddle?
For my own curiosity what is a "paddle" or "paddle group". Im sure others are thinking the same.
I read Chriss explanation in the OP but it explains the differences to volumetric, not what it is or what it looks like.
No, Im not going to vote in the poll without trying both.

Re: LM GS/3. Paddle or no paddle?
Are you crazy? Paddle group FTW!~
Ability to control preinfusion manually....I wish I could have a machine like that. Actually Im itching to jump on the Cafenatics FB70s with paddles. I think some of the boys working on the machines are preinfusing at 3 bar for 8 seconds then pull pressure.
Go paddle group, Chris! Plus those GS3 buttons look small and hard to get to. Plus you do the Toshi trick and turn the group off with your head or something while steaming milk if your other hand is doing something else ;D
