        Re: Brasilia Portofino 2 Group

        Hi guys.
Just wanted to clarify a few things:

        1. What is the best method to clean the frame? (will a wire brush strip any coatings)
        2. How do I remove the pump from the motor (clamp is loosened)

        Cheers,
        Ben

wire brush will scratch the paint IMO and allow future rust.
Hot soapy water then in the sun to dry for a few days (or on top of some heat source like heater / hotwater system / oven ???) to dry out water
I would avoid harsh cleaners to start

does it have surface rust or just coffee stains, if rust better of repainting with proper clean and sand.

          My pump just needed to
1 unscrew that radiator looking silver clamp and remove it out of the way.
2 jiggle to pump slides of may need a bit of a light tap / pry NOT MUCH BUT!!

it has a "keyway" set up, motor is female pump is male "spade" shaped

            Maheel,

Doesnt seem to be any apparent rust - mostly coffee crud. Ill have a crack with your approach and see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice with the pump!

            Cheers,
            Ben

              Re: Brasilia Portofino 2 Group

              Well, we have made progress!

Things slowly got put back together, and after a few rolls of thread tape and a bit of a jigsaw puzzle, Lazarus was back together! Unfortunately, the cleaning process wasnt as successful as Sootys, it has still come up ok.
So, I switched it on and all was ok. 1 leak which was fixed in an instant. But then, as soon as the boiler reached pressure - we had a mega leak. As I mentioned earlier, I had to get a copper pipe made up. Now, I will name and shame this company - Pirtek did a HORRIBLE job. I complained at the time of pickup and managed to get a significant discount because of the poor quality of the job. I thought I could get away with it however, because it seemed mostly aesthetic - how horribly wrong I was. So, I will endeavour to get the pipe replaced ASAP and hopefully well be in business!

I have one small problem - the valve for the water wand is squealing on opening and I am guessing that its simply a lack of grease. But I cant open the body of the valve to re-grease it. So, what do I do? Can I still manage to get some form of lubrication in there? Any ideas?

              Cheers,
              Ben

Regarding the replacement copper pipe Ben,

Id give the job to a decent plumber/gas-fitter or a refrigeration mechanic. These guys work with this stuff all the time and should be able to do a good job for you

                          Mal.

                            Thanks for the advice Mal.
In hind sight, I probably should have done exactly what you said. Today I took the pipes back to Pirtek in the hope that all will be fixed and we will be up and running again soon.

Hope everyone is enjoying the photos.

The groupheads look much better shiny than they do black, Ben! 8-)

Its looking a treat...cant wait to hear how you go with it once its up and running...

The crud you got out of the boiler was nothing compared to what came out of ours after the element blew up... Consider yourself lucky there! Though, I am wondering what the black crud is. At least ours was just lime scale.

Thanks for the excitement scoots! Yer I cant wait to see it up and running - and hopefully it isnt too far away.

I cant explain the black crud either - obviously very different shade to lime scale, but lets just hope its all gone. Actually the water that I did manage to draw through the group heads looked as clean as a whistle.

Hope all is well up north!
