    Re: Brasilia Portofino 2 Group

A long-awaited update - I spent a while working on the issue of autofill thinking this would solve all of the worlds problems. I replaced the solenoid on the valve assembly and now autofill is working correctly. However, Im barely getting a drip out of the group heads, despite the pump showing 9 bar.

Im not really sure where to go next without taking apart the valve assembly and the group heads. Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys
    Ben

So should I be taking apart the valve assembly then? What exactly does it do?

        Hi Ben!

Wondering if youd solved the brew pressure problem. I have a very similar problem after my Portofino restoration, and Im thinking it must be the pump. Any help would be appreciated!

        Cheers,

        Pete

          Correct Moto.
From my old electrical engineering days - the capacitor is used the "start" the motor. Single-phase motors need to create a magnetic pole shift and the capacitor causes the AC sine-wave to alter momentarily, generating a magnetic field that acts like a "spin" to get the shaft moving. Dont lose the capacitor, you wont start the motor.
Some larger AC motors can have 2x capacitors, one for start and the other for run (the run capacitor acting as well as a sine wave corrector from the inductive effect of the motor).
The flow meters are measuring your volumetric dosages for each group, so you can program the levels, etc.
Just to add, the capicitor addes a phase shift in the A/C Wave this shift causes a a difference between the the two magnetic waves ie the stator and the rotor. There fore the rotor is always trying to match the two waves to equalize. hence it chases that phase shift and you have rotation. A simple explanation and I know not indepth for some but it may help people understand the reason for the cap.

            Hi Pete

Ben might MIA for a bit, went traveling i think. He has my spare pump as well..... to try to see if it was the pump or other issue.

            whats the problem with yours?

            few Qs
are you plumbed in or using a tank / bucket
have you adjusted the pump pressure at the pump?
have you cleaned out the pump and adjuster? i had one that even when you adjusted it needed to be "tapped" lightly to get it to adjust.
same issue both groups on yours?

              Hi

Ive got the same job on my hands. I picked up a 1999 Portofino. What did you use to descale the boiler?

                Hi soccerstuie

I used the Cafetto Vanish Descaler to soak the boiler. Available from most sponsors - I purchased from Coffee Parts.

                Good luck with your resto

                  Hi

Could you please tell me where you got the schematics from?

                  Thanks

                    Soccerstuie,

I cannot remember where I got the schematics from, nor could I find them on my computer. However, I do have a paper copy if you are in the area?

                    Cheers,
