        Correct

New owner, but Ive only been able to pull 3 shots since Thursday morning. Just dont have time to play with the new toy this weekend which is quite disappointing

The EM0480 is something that Ive been thinking about replacing. But first, I need to get familiar with the Duetto and work out what affects what. eg temperature, grind size etc.

The Kony on the for sale thread looks pretty tempting - probably overkill for my intended use which is a coffee for me and my partner 3~4 days a week few. The weekend may see us have a couple of cups a day, but thats about it.

          On the other hand....

When youre talking about machines at this echelon, its all about quality and ease of use. Would be a real shame, to not have a grinder that would allow you to truly experience just what this sort of machine is capable of, in the cup.

You will notice the difference, guaranteed.... 8-)

          Mal.

unless you get grind and dose consistency there is there no point seeing what changing the temp etc.

What size group head seal are you guys all using? The one that came with machine is about 8.5mm.

What Im finding is that the handle is not locked at the 6oclock position - it sits somewhere between 7 and 8. What this means is that the lugs on the portafilter is not fully sitting/supported by the collar.

Im assuming a seal with a smaller height (ie the 8mm) will solve this?

In case anyone is interested, measurements of the seal:
              OD = 73mm
              ID = 57mm

While I had my calipers out, I did a measurement of the steam tip thread. The OD of the steam tip thread is 8.4mm (there doesnt seem to be a steam tip that has an 8.4mm thread on coffeeparts).

Im using an 8mm group gasket which come supplied by Bellabarista. You can always put the 8.5 one on a flat surface and rub it down on a piece of sandpaper if you dont have an 8mm one to hand. It worked for me.

There are some short comings, but I knew about them when I was doing my research and willing to accept them. 2 of the hassles (draining the waste water, and refilling the tank) stem from the fact that I’m using the inbuilt reservoir, so I’ll look into this option in the future.

The other short coming is the portafilter clearance; I just get around this by putting the cups on an angle so it’s not a big deal. The naked on my sunbeam doesn’t fit the E61, so I’ll have to either cut the single portafilter or buy one. At the moment, I’m a bit reluctant to cut the single (even though I don’t use it!) but we’ll see.
I empty the waste water each day and got a funnel and typically fill it every 2-3 days but I usually wait for the low water alarm to sound. My friend removes the resevoir and refills it but I dont find that as convenient. On my machine 1.5litres fills it back up without any chance of spilling or overfilling so I use a 500mm measuring flask.

Dont bother to cut up your portafilter. I got a naked pf from Di Bartoli for about $70 that fits perfectly and has been rechromed.

Great machine youll enjoy it. I cleaned mine after 2 months and found that it may be too soon. May be able to extend to 3 months. But typically I only make 2 coffees each morning for my wife and I and a few more on weekends.

I have greased the group lever cam once after 4 months use. Wasnt that easy the first time but manageable if you take your time. I used INOX as the grease and it is food safe. Works fine. Easy to take off the shower screen (Use that gadget that they sell in harware stores to open paint tins only about $1 & free if you buy paint - brilliant for the task) but I could not take off the brass disc diffuser. It was so tight I was not game. Anyone know if there is a special trick to take that off?

                  regards
                  JohnT

The current seal is still okay, but I will definitely replace it with a 8mm by the end of the year. The sandpaper is a good idea. Thanks for the tip, Ill give it a go later today.

Ditto - funnels the only way to do it. Taking the tank out like your mate is too troublesome.

Someone suggested using a plastic container inside the drip tray to make even easier. Ive currently got a take away container catching water from the group. It makes emptying and cleaning a bit easier.

Im using this machine to make 2~3 cups a day. A little bit more on the weekend. I find that oils build up behind the shower screen pretty quickly, so a little bit of detergent per fortnight works for me.  The lever is always stiff immediately after a back flush using detergent, but is back to normal after the first shot.

I have taken the lever off to lubricate the cams. Im also using INOX (i use this to lube the group seal too). Like you said, daunting at first but quite easy the second time.

After reading your post, I had a go at taking mine off. I used a short flat head screw driver wrapped with a microfiber cloth. Mine wasnt torqued on too hard and I was able to remove the disc by turning it anti-clockwise. FWIW, my machine was warm.

I chucked the brass disc into a citric acid solution and it came out new. I let the whole thing dry and used a little bit of inox on the threads. I screwed it back on using the friction grip of my finger.

Just bought my Duetto from Coffee Roasters Australia and plumbed it in last night. Going to be a few days/weeks getting used to it. Quite different going from a small HX to such a brute.

Was wondering how people are setting up their machines to get the most out of them? leaving factory settings or adjusting the PID depending on the bean their drinking.

My machine is currently set at 120/93 drinking Supreme Roasters - Bang.

Interested in hearing all your tips and tweaks?

                        Hi Chester,

                        123/93 is default.

If your shots are consistent enough that you can get a consistent pour for say 5 shots back to back, you can then play with temperature. Let the machine stabilise for 30 min at 90 deg and then run a flight of shots to 95 deg as a start. See where you like your coffee.

NB we strongly recommend against going to Fahrenheit settings as the PID was not designed for it in the first place. All PID settings need to be reprogrammed to USA settings if you want to go oF to do so and I am less happy withthe performance in this mode.

                        Cheers

                        Chris

I will get myself dialled in with the machine this week, then start to play around as you suggested.

Also like to give you a big thank you for your involvment in my machine . What you offer to this site ,its members and towards good, old style customer service is simply astounding.

Just wondering if the new September release of the Duetto has found its way into Australian stores yet. They have filtered through in the USA and have the following upgrades

Float system instead of micro switch for water level
New feet that have rubber on the bottom for non skid
                              New water tank
                              Adjustable expansion valve
                              Heavy duty over pressure valve

Im very interested in Water tank as they have redesigned it making it easier to fill.

                                Hello Snake,

Our most recent import arrived last week and yes, we did receive a surprise in that the revised tank is fitted. All other items you have listed were already part of our 2011 specification.

The new tank is a small bonus, but needs care as it encourages a fill whilst in the machine. You dont want to go throwing water around near electronics and 240V

You are most welcome to make contact if you would like further information or to be placed in contact with your nearest seller.
