Maybe i should apologize ( :) for not realizing i needed some secret qualification or experience , prior to contributing to a thread !
Sounds like you just got ticked off because someone .."with no experience whatsoever " pointed out the lack of thought behind your explanation of the insulated boiler being the cause of differing temperature readings ??
Maybe you .."would like to enlighten us all "..as to how that would cause one boiler to drop way below ambient temp !

Moderators - Any chance this thread can get cleaned up for those of us more interested in staying on topic?

Hi has anyone ever had trouble adjusting (getting into program mode) their PID?

Ive never had any trouble getting into the program mode of the PID.

Just hold both the up and down arrows on the PID while turning the machine on.

Turn it on while holding both arrows.
If it does not work, you might have a problem

Just wanted to clarify - are you just wanting to change the temperature or a little bit more (like changing the P I and D values?

edit: did some research on google. It looks like youre not pressing the LEFT button hard enough, or its stopped work.

"It can be quite difficult to get both buttons to depress whilst turning on the machine, so you may need
to repeat this until the programming mode is entered. One of three things may happen…
                      (1) The machine shows a temperature, which means that the buttons were not properly held down or
for long enough whilst the machine is turned on. Simply start the process again (beginning by turning
off the machine at the main switch).
                      (2) The machine shows PrS (or Pr5, since it is hard to tell what the digit is meant to represent). This
means the the left button was not held down properly or for long enough, but the right button was.
The PrS mode is a general reset, which reverts all PID settings to their factory defaults. Note that it
also resets the desired (set) temperature to 96C, so be ready for this if you want a lower temperature
when you next turn the machine on! Turn off the machine and start again.
                      (3) The machine shows F.03 (or simply F03, with no decimal point). Congratulations! You have
                      successfully entered the programming mode."

Thanks Specialpants you were right and I was thinking the same thing the left button wasnt properly. yesterday after reading your post and letting the machine cool all day I tried to enter program mode. As I pressed the left button(hard) I heard a loud click and its worked since(the whole time the button had been clicking like the right hand one but not working and I had tried pressing firmly, something must have just got stuck inside). I hope it doesnt play up again thanks for your help.

                            Hi Ausnadian,

I can identify with the anticipation - Ill be picking up my Duetto this weekend after a year or two of working towards the upgrade and a few months agonising over the choice of machine :-/

Enjoy the new machine, maybe a photo opportunity while you wait for it to warm up...

                              • A section of the PID display went out over the weekend. It seems to be intermittent and infrequent. It may stay off for 2 hours and then come back on for 2 hours. I'm not too fussed about it because the coffee machine is still working as expected.

For those in the know: does this actually mean anything (eg is it a sign that the PID will die on me)? Is this a quick/easy/cheap fix (eg replace the LED display only) or would it actually require a whole new PID unit?
