  • Hi specialpants,

You may not be fussed, but I am!

I would like to replace it. Please arrange a time with your selling dealer. Your dealer will need to contact me prior so that I can send a new PID up for you to minimise any delay.

      • Sorry if this has been discussed before (quick search didn't turn anything up) ....

Loving the Duetto, but, when I fire it up in the morning and allow around 20 mins warm-up, it takes quite a while to purge the water out of the steam wand (haven't timed it, but somewhere between 1.5 and 2 mins I think). The first 15 seconds is mostly a stream of water, then followed by period of steam/violent squirts of water. Slowly the squirts get less frequent and eventually it settles down and I get nice steam that I can get good foam with pretty easily (now I've done some practice). The process is quite messy - I haven't worked out a way of doing it without shooting water out of the drip-tray, no matter how carefully I turn on the steam valve. Once I've done the initial purge, subsequent purges are very short (a second or two).

So I guess I'm wondering is this just normal for a boiler machine (I'm a newbie to these) and if so, is there a "best way" to do this initial purging process and if not, is there something i can do to avoid it?

        Thanks,

        Pete

        • Not normal Pete,

Use the manual and check that F.02 = 5 for me if you would.

If not, we're looking for boiler overfill and I'll need to know more about your water.

          Cheers

          • Hi Chris,

            Thanks for the quick response.

Have checked and F.02 is 5.

Thought it might be a water issue. Am working on filter options with Bombora at the moment, but am using bottled "spring water" in the mean time. According to the bottle Typical Analysis is (all in mg/L):
            Chloride 22.0
            Sodium 40.0
            Magnesium 3.0
            Calcium 24.0
            Bicarbonate 30.0
            Potassium 2.0

            • A quick heads up to all CS'ers

Please keep your eyes peeled for any new or near new Alex Duetto which turns up for sale in the pub, on the bay or elsewhere. It has been "appropriated" from one of our dealers.

I'll publish the serial number of this stolen machine as soon as I receive it.

Geez this water issue is a bit tricky but I'm almost there (the water in my part of Toowoomba turns out to be not-so-pretty TH and TDS wise).
While I'm making final decisions and placing orders, does this bottled stuff sound ok? Could it be causing the steam issues? Thanks again.

                • Hi Pete

I found it similar with my duetto also, after 1hr warm up as you described. My water quality is around 330 TDS (so plenty of Na and K in my water) but the hardness (Mg\Ca) is reading zero. I always purge around 40-50ml hot water into each glass every morning (80-100ml in total). I then purge the wand and I would say it is perfect after good 5 to 10 sec purge.

                  • Thanks for the info Jonty. I tried your purging method this morning and it was a bit more convenient. Does anyone know the anatomy of water that will prevent the boiler from overfilling? (I realize I don't know if that's what's causing the issue outlined above, but I'm inferring that from Chris's response above).

                    Pete

                    • Hi Pete,

Would you mind calling at your leisure (business hours ;-)) so that we can discuss your issue? I have a few things in mind which you might check...

                      Cheers

Further to this thread, the stolen machine has a serial number of #1916. The SN is visible on the build and compliance sticker found under the drip tray.

It was taken from Dimattina Coffee WA, so it's most likely to appear in WA if it offered for sale. A Rocket Giotto Evoluzione V1 was stolen with it.

The thieves were clearly discerning as they moved an Expobar machine out for the way to get it. They knew what they wanted.

We can only hope that an Izzo specific part goes bang and really soon as we do not supply parts unless we know where they're going.

Appreciate if you can keep your eyes peeled CS'ers.

                        • Thanks for the heads up. I'm currently looking at one of these machines. I'm going to buy from an official distributor but will keep an eye out on 'other' sources as I do my searching. Scumbags.

Do it, it's a nice machine and I always look forward to using it. It's a shame that the theft on two of high end machines were stolen in WA. That's a considerable blow to the business - I hope everything was insured.

I also wanted to publicly thank Chris and Dennis for their help with replacing my PID. Firstly to Dennis for his time and effort today. Secondly to Chris for going beyond the call of duty - the replacement part was something I was not expecting as the Duetto is well out of warrant and was an aesthetic issue. Not only that, I wanted to thank you for the bag of beans and filter basket. You're a champ.

Off topic - Beans were excellent. Good flavours and a hit of chocolatey sweetness to it. Just made coffees for myself and 2 other people; all of us loved it. Good news is that I think Talk Coffee has free shipping on beans in July, so you guys should give it a whirl - it definitely beats what I can do on a behmor

                            • I know that it doesnt add much to the discussion on the Alex Duetto, but my wife is sick of hearing it.....so I had to post something..............BUT I friggin love making coffee on this machine.....I almost feel like slapping people at work who drink instant or go to a coffee chain and think its great! Only thing stopping me is that 1. I may get arrested & 2. Do we really want everyone to know the secret.

Thanks for your kind words. They mean a whole heap to me!

You may have not been worried about your PID, but it's our (and Gruppo Izzo's) reputation that you and your visitors viewed each time you saw the dead segment so it was our pleasure.

I am glad that you have enjoyed the coffee as well.

Free shipping on coffee runs 'til the end of month as a FB promo. Anyone interested is welcome to grab the offer.
