  • I disagree Java,

When the price of a machine stays the same but additional items are supplied at no charge, I call them free. The changes we have seen across the last few revisions were tamper and a high quality cover .

The bottom line is that all machines are manufactured to a price point and the Alex Duetto offers incredible bang for buck at its price. Many have paid similar money for HX machines with vibe pumps. To receive a dual boiler, rotary pump, PID controlled machine for little more represents good buying. Perhaps one day the tamper may change and if/when it does, that will be another bonus. I am happy that it's there as purists represent only a small proportion of the buying public. In the meantime, for those who don't like it, we have pay it forward. It will be perfect for a Lelit owner.

I am concerned that there are some who view and then purchase a hand-assembled machine in full knowledge of what it is. Later it's placed under the microscope and the vendor then receives a list of "imperfections" that the purchaser believes should be rectified such as microscopic scratches in powdercoat, welds not finished in the manner that buyer believes they could be et al. The list is endless and the time taken addressing unrealistic expectations drives me nuts! I could do exactly the same with my GS/3 or even a Speedster, but it is an abject waste of time. My GS/3 is what it is and I purchased it in full knowledge of what I'd receive. Most importantly, like the Duetto, it produces terrific coffee. Isn't this what it's all about?

The obsessive compulsive nature of the geek market (and I use the term affectionately) will far too often see the cup as half-full. The solution is a handstand which will allow the cup and the world to be viewed from a new perspective.

No manufacturer has made a perfect machine. I celebrate the fact that so many these days make great machines at very reasonable prices. It's about choosing an appropriate compromise.

      • I used the term 'free' simply because I don't believe the price of the associated goods
would be reduced if the 'accessories' were deleted from the package. They are 'box opening day' sweeteners, or feel good
'bonuses'. Like I said; happy to have them but it's not why I make a purchase.

I find you approach to "Customer Service" and "Customer Feedback" , interesting.
..Straight from the Chopper Reed book of sales techniques ?

I thought we Aussies were paying all these extra dollars for good service ?

            • and... speaking of driving me nuts!!!!!! Sheeeeeeesh... do the whinging and moaning and lofty (never to be attained) expectations ever cease?

              • Lofty? what part do you consider lofty? There's a difference between whinging and feedback. To me whinging is complaining about a product without legitimate concern or expressing its faults if any. I wasn't doing that. If you never feedback how does the manufacturer know your concerns? Btw, you don't have to read this thread, then you wont be driven nuts.

I don't think that Vinitasse's comments were directed at you ken

                  How's the machine travelling?

It's all about repetition Ken, when you've been around here for a few years it all becomes a little like Ground Hog Day.

You do sometimes feel like your in an endless loop around here Chris, particularly trying to keep up with the Breville DB thread, 3902 posts and still the questions come.

                        • I didn't take the comments at being directed at me but my opinion is that members ought to be able to express their thoughts. This is still a democracy and freedom of speech and all that. Which reminds we've got elections coming. Now we all got to listen to the crappy promises the politicians are going to give us.

The machine's great. I'm on a learning curve. I think I made a mistake buying different coffee beans to the one I'll be eventually using. Means I'll be redialling to get the grind right. My wife was commenting on how wasteful it was just to learn to make coffee. Part of the cost of getting to that god shot. I think I'll eventually plumb in but need to convince her that it's ok to make a hole in the bench.

Chris, in plumbing in what psi is recommended for the machine? Just need to know whether to put in a pressure reducer.

                          • Hi Ken,

Put it behind something like this (350kPa PLV). The temp probes in PID machines hate scale, so make sure that you use appropriate filtration. Best speak with Bombora or Dimattina.

                            Cheers

                            Chris

Hey Ken... I agree with you 100% about one's freedom to freely express their thoughts on this, or any other, forum and I certainly am never shy about sharing my own and welcome open debate on any given subject. Having said that, there are some here all too willing to spout off with something they read off of a bathroom wall, or heard from a friend of a friend, and then use these "well informed" points of view to bludgeon others with. This bludgeoning is all too often directed at a small handful of contributors and sponsors and smacks of personal attack rather than anything contributory to this forum or its members. It is to these types that my comments were directed and apologies are tendered to any who thought they were painted with the same brush.
