I’ve sent a message directly to Izzo themselves so I’ll see what they come back with; no doubt they will direct me to Casa Espresso too. Today the brew boiler temperature went through the roof and I had steam coming out of the brew head. No coffee for me today... I will start with replacing the PID and go from there because I can’t read it to see what is happening at the moment.

    • Or could also be at the SSR

      • Out of interest, do you have a decent quality surge suppression power board feeding your espresso gear?
Could be some nasty spikes sneaking through and playing havoc with the various control systems...

Chris from TC is sending me a new PID and thermocouple so I’ll start there. Could be the SSR but I need to fix the PID first to eliminate that. It’s hard to tell but I think I have an error A1 showing, hence the new temp probe for the brew boiler.

          • Could be as I don’t have any surge protection on the machine. Might have to look into it but I don’t really want to use a power board.

            • You can get single and double Surge Protected GPOs such as the one pictured...
              Not obtrusive at all.

              • There's a few options out there. Some have replaceable surge units on case they get used up. Best practice is to have the whole house on a larger surge diverter and then each piece of critical equipment on a smaller local one. Different size surge diverters work for different size surges.

Unfortunately the GPO the machine is plugged into is a quad and I haven’t found a surge protected one yet.

The new PID and brew boiler thermocouple are installed and it seems I’ve cured the problem. I will be 100% sure when the machine has been allowed to idle for 30 minutes or so. Thanks again to Chris @ TC; I prefer the white LEDs too.

                  • Might be best to go with a Whole of House solution then.
More expensive initially but if it saves you having to repeatedly replace electronic components, then it's cheap insurance...
