Re: Grimac "Ten" Series 2 Group Compact

    1:  Looks like I was lucky again...    http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1267349925/9#9   ;D

2: See reply http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1267349925/4#4 and re visit my other posts in this topic as to managing the Electrical issues.

3: I recon they also bent the sensor as some one has assumed that if it was touching the element that was causing the system to blow.. Some time after that, it blew out and then they disconnected the element.

4: Not sure where you can get a new element... Other than contacting the manufacturer directly or contacting a company in your area / location that do custom elements..

They may be able to use the brass fitting and that should reduce costs...

NOTE: Get ya wiring installed and set up for 20A.  That way be it 10A, 15A or 20A now or in the future... It is done and your safe.

If ya decide to keep going with one / two elements.. I would still get the wiring done...

A some stage the element will fail and then you will be having to get a new one..

ALSO; Please get the  un used element connectors correctly terminated by your electrician; so that the other element can be connected at some stage in the future.  Just do not use standard electrical tape as it is not suited for this.

will this be ok to run or should i order a new element? i cannot find a suitable replacement on CoffeeParts, can anyone recomend somewhere to buy a new element?

      Thanks AM,

The Sparkies where here yesterday installing the 20 Amp switch and 20 Amp Breaker on the board... all on its own line.

There is no sign of these connections in the wiring i can see from the main switch, it looks like they either where terminated OR i have seen diagrams with 6 pin elements where the 5th and 6th pins have been connected from the 3rd and 4th pins.

Ohhh it was not meant like that :-*

Some systems will have a separate run for each element.. Due to wiring limits and or the ability to select / switch out elements; on demand.. A neat feature 8-)

Other systems will have a heavy run to teh element and then there will be links on teh elements that can be configured / removed to suit 110V or 240V and or to remove elements as and if required. Sounds like yours...

Take care, enjoy the ride but above all; Stay SAFE.

Why would you bend the water probe? I have bent it straight again but not sure if i did the right thing?
Thats how the fill level probe was in my machine (With an angle bend towards the inside end, angled toward the bottom of the boiler).   I would think its supposed to be like that.  If coffeeparts has a schematic for your machine,  take a look and you will see if its meant to be bent (or not...)

Re: Grimac "Ten" Series 2 Group Compact

The water probe is straight on the boiler pics i found. V860.

I just got off the phone from Grinders, for a new element and they said $120, so i might go down and pick up a new element next week.

They also quoted over $200 for a new set of side panels?!?!?. I think i will need to find a different solution for this one.

Left Hand side panel missing on purchase.

I wonder how much a sheet of SS would cost to make up the side, would need around 1000 x 500 mm, anyone have any ideas?

You could also go with Aluminium, not as strong but easy to work with and cut. Big Bunnings sell it in small sheets, not sure on size but.

also go to your local scrap merchant they often have small bits of sheet metal for sale

Re: Grimac "Ten" Series 2 Group Compact

I was thinking SS, but Aluminium will work, If i use Aluminium i would think i would need to insulate the boiler as heat loss would be greater. But as the original are plastic, would insulastion really add much to the energy efficiency of the machine?

imo i dont think the difference woudl even be noticeable between ally an SS in relation to heat dynamics.

Re: Grimac "Ten" Series 2 Group Compact

So i did a bit of R&D regarding the Side Pannels for my machine (went to the local Bunnings), and found a solution that i didnt think of... Stucco Aluminium Sheets.

I have taken a side by side shot of plain aluminium (top) and stucco (bottom)...

What do you guys and girls think i should use?

the stucco is not going to "scratch" but imo it looks a bit kind of daggy, but that said it would paint well and hide imperfections in your paint. (if you thought you might paint it.

i was thinking the ally sheet might scratch easy

either way you can hide it behind a robur.......

I know that KK has fabricated his own parts for the KKTO. Maybe you could chat with him and find out whats involved, the costs etc.

Stucco looks okay, but its all down to what you want the styling to be at the end of the project. Also do you have the tools to convert a piece of metal into a panel. Would be find to learn about it mind you.

Re: Grimac "Ten" Series 2 Group Compact

Chris, congrats on your Grimac. I have one identical to yours, bought it second hand for a relative song about 3 years or so ago, and its never missed a beat.

                                Indestructible commercial beast.

When I got it, it had a broken sight glass for the water level (bought new one), and a broken pessure gage (bought new Gaggie one from Coffee Parts which fit) and of course bought new group seals, since replaced again.

Thats all the money I ever had to spend on it.

The element is over 3000 watts, but I reduced this to 2400 by removing some of the jumpers. Certainly dont need that much wattage, and even with reduced horsepower, recovery time is more than Ill ever need.

I even run it on a cheapo timer so its ready to go by the time I get up.

The water level probe is only a stainless rod, and as long as it can be slid in or out doesnt matter. A good idea to mark a line with a permanent marker or tape so youll know at what depth to slide it in to the boiler.

The ONE modification I will make (one day!!) is to switch the water tap and steam wands ---The machine is side-on to me in the kitchen bench, with the steam wand furthest from me.

Tends to run too hot, but I cant turn the Sirai pressurestat lower.

A couple of tips if I may...

When I took possession, the vacuum break valve tended to stick. Remove it, clean it and replace the little o-ring with an ever so smaller one to free it up.

Once every few months or so, remove the water level probe and clean the end to make sure water makes electrical contact with it.

                                Enjoy.
