AlexT just dropped in and was not impressed    I guess it was the 3 lots of shots and unknown beans and me still only learning and not getting use to the dosing levels and grind settings..  :-[ :-[ :-[
Hold on a moment, lets put some context around that. All three shots were reasonable but none were amazing. Im definitely looking forward to see what the DCM puts in the cup when youve set a baseline for grind/dose/tamp etc.

I think Im still trying to understand the value in the extra three inches, although your wife may feel differently about it to me.

    Alex
Well I will not be asking as she usually calls a spade a spade.. But with teh optical illusion.. I recon it looks like even more space is available

It was good to catch up and to see you on ya way with a working system...

Note: Have made enquiries and looking to add the Super mini mod that will allow just the group boiler to be turned on...  This should save power and time.  Further more, as we often have straight shots for any number of reasons including affogatos it will reduce waiting time etc....
Gave up and had a look at the cct and confirmed with one of teh top electronic Engs I know..

He dropped over and we ran some tests and measured current draw and evaluated potential problems and other possible side effects..

So simple it is not an issue and should cost about $10 for some high quality wiring, 4 spade terminals and a quality switch to match the rest of teh DCM...

Wife will be so happy as it drops the current draw significantly in teh first instance and min start up time.. Will be a boon for shots and affogatos 8-)

Dont be too deterred AM... i was thinking the same thing when i first purchased my DC mini. I even went back to my old over extracting Gaggia to get a decent cup the second day.

The naked wont help you get a better cup but the Vario deffinately will!

1:  A second switch that just  interrupts the signal to the controller (ie. temp has been reached thus power off) or  that interrupts  the cct to the elements..

Both options have some minor issues...  That may not be obvious without the cct diag...

2: Change the switch for a double throw type...  and still perform one of the above options..
            ummmm....?

Im the type to stick a knife in the power socket when it doesnt work AM. Just let me know when you have completed the mod and tell me what you want for a pre fab set of wiring

At least you admit it... Others think they can get away with it

              Once I can get what I want for the mod... It will be either;

1: An extra switch... Rocker or push button ???

              OR

2: A single new 3 position rocker / tumble switch to replace teh existing one

              Will let ya know..

As to the grinder... Fingers crossed... That something might turn up.

                Hi AM,
I have an isolating switch fitted to my Lineas steam boiler circuit. Its the ducks #*$s!
I usually have the steam boiler on for the morning coffees but have not as yet had it on for the afternoons visit.
It is great to have the choice.
Mine is illuminated when in the on position so there are no accidents. You wont look back.

                Cheers,
                Paolo

Thanks...  I played and did it all manually with bare feet to be on the safe side and she woorks like a charm... Now to get the parts and make a  kit up for those that might also be interested.

OPPS.. Site policy... But does not matter .. Only one other DCM user I know in Australia; thus getting his bits for free - err for a loan of his nakid

See attached as a guide..  The switches I want / need; are not off the shelf here in Australia.. Thus an order and in some cases a min number.  It also explains why DC use a separate switch and on the Super mini this is fine..  But the DCM... A bit tight...

PS.  This is more a block diag; than an actual schematic, thus it is not so simple as it might first appear  .

Luke and others that may be interested.

                    Have sourced a couple of High end quality components for the mod to add the functionality of selecting the following on the DCM;

1: Special Rocker switch DPDT On-Off-On with separate colour leds to clearly indicate which option has been selected.

2: Position One - System, Steam boiler and Group Boiler all ON.

                    3: Centre - OFF

3: Position Two - System and Group Boiler ON - Steam boiler OFF.

Once I have the said parts in my hands... I will post B4 and After pics.. Then again, it is just the front panel.. Many would never notice 8-)

Internally it will have one extra component and associated wiring.

All this work will is being done in accordance with GLP and I am in communications with the Manufacturers of the DCM in that lovely county in the Mediterranean 8-)

Besides... I hear that research is going well and new systems are always requiring Beta users

                    Regards

Re: My new distraction: Miss Dalla Corte Mini

                      Hello,

Regarding your mod I would advise not to have the off-position on the center of the switch as this will force you to disconnect  the mains-power when switching the steam-boiler on or off..

The best way of implementing the mod imo, is to add a second 2-pole switch, that simply disconnects the AC-supply for the steam-boiler heating element.
This is also the way it is done on the Super-Mini.

The way I see it, the three-position switch is only better if you find it to be a major aesthetic improvement or if you dont want to modify the casing to fit another switch.

Good luck with the project - I have a Mini myself and really enjoy being able to turn the steam-boiler off..

Thanks... The intent was to make the call when going to make, the said coffee. Not to switch between ;D

But your comments are noted and I am still looking at the best way froward, but on the standard mini Vs the Super... Space on the front panel and looks is a factor on the mini.

Pics of your would be great to see... What grinder is matched with it ?

PS. I would not be switching the element directly any way..

Regardless of either config.. If one was to then ya breaking a heavy current flow when under load and that is not ideal.. I intend to break the low current 240V signal to the steam element controller..

Much safer and much cleaner with less stress on the electronics.

The biggest issue has been in getting a true DPDT with self illumination and that the are two colours...

Plenty around for some but not at 240V

Re: My new distraction: Miss Dalla Corte Mini

Cool stuff - the Mini is a fun machine to use and easy to work on, so Im sure it will turn out great in any event.

I have also replaced the pump with a rotary in order to get line-level pre-infusion and permanent water-hookup.
                          To accommodate this I added a 0.5mm flowjet, which results in a 70mL/10s water-debit and a nice pressure-ramp when not pre-infusing.

I like using a steamtip with 4x0.9mm holes. This works really well with the 1.5l steam-boiler.

My Mini is matched with a Ditting KE-640 grinder, but Im afraid I dont have any pictures of my setup..
I could maybe take some low-tech pics with my phone, I guess.
Havent tried it before, so please be patient with me..!
