  • KLUB T2 2 grp machine - Rebuild ???

    KLUB T2 2 grp machine..

The eagle landed at 9:30am today and as of 12:15 Stripped and Boiler removed.

    Some interesting findings.

1: Upper SS guard still had the protective plastic on it. yucky crap and oils like ooooo

2: SSR and Fan was interesting... Yet to work out.. Inputs and outputs of SSR shorted with a link ?? :

3: Element not so tight... Good nick.. But funny Grean jelly all over it :-?

4: The neck is sleeved and welded internally with spot welds on the outside.. Not sure if A leak or not sealing on one of the element screws.

Off to get it tigéd any way.

5: couple of cracked fittings and lots of calcium / scale in the heads...

6: I then proceeded to snap an brass elbow with my finger 8-)

7: Yet to have a close look at the key pad... That will be tonight.

    So.... Outcome...

Its a project and the CSer at the other end was ever so assisting and supportive I can only say THANK you.... Will pay it forward along the way...

May Be Wsully has already had it or even AlexTom and his Feama that is still not working :P ( No room in the shed Alex; you will have to leave it out side

Will I be able to get it all going... YES. Will I actually persist... Unknown.

There are any number of bits needed and many hrs of work... If it was a true Leaver machine..... Then as just for a talking piece... Worth teh effort.

In this case; yet to be seen. If I loose faith; then there will be a FS post at some stage in the future.

Yes... Pics to follow when I get my bandwidth back.

PPS. The courier was great at this end and was very helpful and even offered to not only unload to the property; but offered to un pack and help me get it on the bench.

I gracefully declined... He had done enough and detoured from teh del address as it was; as I was at home.

Schssss  She has not seen it yet

Besides the deserts YOUR making will appease her

          Update:

1: ProCom bearing is a pain... Imperial ID and Metric OD.   $38 special - Wait a week for delivery.

2: Broken fittings - $10 (they are gas fittings) CadGas at Milton in Brisbane... Great place

3: Hope to do some bead blasting and may be; a side by side compare - If I can work the camera.

Had to stop with the ultra sonic bath last night... The cleaning solution was almost boiling and still can not clean some of the crap off.

4: Boiler was fixed and inspected - 6 pack

5: Switches and ICs as well as the SSR cct - yet to be looked at.

PS. Have sent pics back to the factory re the bearing and boiler neck sleeve issue as Feedback to their Manufacturing and Quality people. Will let ya know what transpires.

            A quick compare:

            Pick the clean ones...

Note the dirty ones had already had 30 min in a cleaning solution and ultra sonic bath.

The clean had 60 soak and a short time in the bead blaster.

Not perfect... But I dont think it matters.

            [edit]

Well was NOT happy with the screens...  still lots of tar in both and even in teh clean one you can still see it....

More bath, more cleaning stuff... Still NOoooo good.

Opps what s that on the bench...  Bug, Tar and road grime remover ($2.19 Super cheep Auto)....  Looks over his sholder, while spraying with gay abandon.

Guess what - Clean as a whistle  ;D

What.... Is it food safe ?  Damm the things were not before; so no change  8-)[/edit]

Looks to be a very substantial machine AM... 8-)

Surprised to notice that they have opted for a S/S Boiler though.... Youll have to make sure no Cl compounds find their way inside. Cl gas on its own is probably not a biggie but if Brissy uses Chloramine to disinfect the water, that has potential to be an issue..... Pin-Hole corrosion from the inside out, very difficult to identify without very specialised equipment

              Mal.

The DCM and any number of other machines for coffee and other systems use SS as a boiler ?

Yep, several manufacturers of commercial machines, including LM, do use S/S Boilers. But, you have to ensure that you use very effective filtering to ensure that ALL Chlorine compounds are removed from the water prior to entering the Boiler. Probably a dedicated Activated Carbon filter would be the best but there may be more effective options out there... Of course, it goes without saying that it would be good to know that the previous owners of the machine paid attention to this detail....

Chlorine and S/S has been mentioned several times over the years mate so a search should pull up all relative material. Short of that, theres plenty of info about it on the Net, such as here or here...
A couple of LMs were trashed in Toowoomba about 4 years ago because they were not made aware of the need to aggressively filter out Chlorine compounds.

The process is aggravated though by higher temperatures and pressures.... Exactly the environment present inside an espresso machine boiler....

                        Mal.

Interesting... I guess the briter jug is on the fence again.. Opps.. They have a carbon cartridge ;D

Who knows what the previous people used.. For that matter... How many care or if they have filters... Do they change them or are they the right type for the job..

I have a two stage... 1 micron carbon followed by a special scale management cartridge... PuraTec system... They did a lot of teh filters for the medical systems and dialysis systems we serviced, thus got the system at trade and knew the product..

However will be adding a 3 filter shortly to clean the system up a bit more..

Its really a case of being aware of the potential to cause damage and then taking the necessary precautions mate, and you are certainly doing that.... 8-)

                              UPDATE.

1: Rebuilt the front switch panel

2: Berhings arrived and the Procom Pump is now packed / sealed and has a heavy duty fully sealed bearing fitted.. Smooth as an eggplant and sooooooo quite. Need to make miniature ones and toss teh vibes. (any old procom pumps.. I am interested)

                              3: Boiler re fitted.

4: All joints and connections buffed and a special lub applied.

5: Pick up sticks... Opps.. No screws and or pipes left over. I wonder how I did that.

6: E61 heads in progress... Must get some parts from coffeeparts and re stock some of what I have used.

7: Ongoing discussions with a great person with the distributors in Asia

8: Need to cut and polish the RED fascia panels.

And at some stage will need to turn it on and see what happens.. :-* :-*
