    Thank you Andy,

The entire coffee experience of our clients is paramount and always has been.

Well work through this process and Ill post here again once were done. Every single owner of a Duetto has been contacted so its just a matter of running the upgrade on every unlocked 10A unit and then we can lock this one down and have a celebratory beer

There are quite a few grey imports in Australia. If anyone here has one, please be mindful of this thread.

    Cheers

    Chris

Have just heard from Chris at Talk Coffee

He expects to be in receipt of replacement PIDs or flashing equipment in a few weeks to upgrade the PID in the machine which should alleviate any concerns. He also offered a complimentary service to compensate for any inconvenience.

In my opinion, a further demonstration of the excellent service provided by Chris.
Thats an excellent result.  Safer equipment and quick action to fix a problem (even on a Sunday!).

    Nice to see!

so many instant experts come out of the woodwork
Given the obvious expertise in the area from some of the contributions above as well as the amount of effort put into crafting their input, Id suspect some would find a throw-away line like that a bit offensive.

However Ill join you and third the comment commending the excellent service provided by Chris.  Ill admit, as one of the early adopters, to some feelings of unease since this aris.

    Good result Chris...
    Thanks Tim,

    It sits comfortably with me.

As for your other questions, lets talk.

I requested many weeks ago via PM that you make contact off forum for a chin wag. I think it would be a good opportunity to clear the air and would appreciate a chat to discuss any other issues you would like to raise.

    Cheers

    Chris

Some people on here need to get a life; I am amazed at how so many instant experts come out of the woodwork when they sniff a bit of blood.
No some of us with an electrical/engineering background take yours and our own safety very seriously when it comes to electrical matters.
: my safety is in good hands. Thanks very much.

    Good result Chris,

Just going a little off topic but you mentioned the Duetto was imported as a commercial machine. Just briefly does that change the compliance regs as opposed to a domestic appliance?

I second that comment. Some people on here need to get a life; I am amazed at how so many instant experts come out of the woodwork when they sniff a bit of blood. FWIW I am a) very happy with my 10A Duetto and b) very happy with the service I have received from Chris. I think I will go and make a coffee

    Hi

Sorry I am still confused about the following question. Should I be worried about buying a second hand Alex Duetto II because of compliance issues with the relevant certifications regarding the current drawn?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Of course you would only worry about the ones pre the new batch, as I understand the new batch is certified?

    Easy Misha.

We are in the process of contacting all owners. 15A machines are fine but we will reflash or replace the PID of 10A machines to lock out the ability for any user with access to PID programming procedure to select 15A. Fortunately, we have a very select club of owners in Australia, so this process with be relatively simple and painless. Well ensure that the deal is sweetened in appreciation of the cooperation of owners.

We will make contact with each purchaser off forum to make arrangements. All further Australian stock is 10A only.

[edit]all owners have now been contacted to make arrangements for a PID upgrade[/edit]

    Guys,

This will be the last post I make in this thread as I am tired of being selectively misquoted elsewhere by the members of the grudge affected gang of four and their poobah who refuse access and right of reply.

I invite all owners to contact me any day between 9am and 9pm via phone to discuss this. Its switched on. Alternately, you are welcome to contact your selling agent.

Yesterday Matt said he was pulling his sponsorship because he is over dealing with internet forums. I am presently searching for reasons as to why I shouldnt follow him.

Nobody is misquoting you; people have spent a considerable amount of money on their duettos, and the points brought up here are completely valid. You said there was a problem with compliance (due to the machine being 15A and it having a 10A plug fitted) and that it has been fixed for future machines.

So the big question is, what about all the machines out there that have already been sold???

we are still left with a few unknowns.
    Like what?

Chris has already responded regarding the compliance, certification and safety issues.

Might be smarter to focus on your modified popper.

While now retired, my many years as a Senior Eng looking after the BHP plant  in NSW and more recently with the Biomedical group for QH.

I am quite happy to say that until I see a certified compliance certificate, as issued by the relevant electrical authorityThen the comments as to how safe and that the new units, fully comply is just conjecture and nothing more.

As to any units imported previously, then they should be subject to an immediate recall and the importer has a duty of care to notify the relevant electrical authority to advise of the issue and to have the recall published in the same manner as all other electrical breaches.

Existing owners should be inspecting the plug and the cord for the correct stamp or markings that will identify if the power lead is in fact compliment with the Australian regs as to its voltage and current rating.  If it does not have markings or these can not be validated via a licensed Electrician or from the info provided on the relevant electrical web site or the AS/NZ standards AS/NZS 3000 / 3001 / 3002 as to the prescribed requirements. Then one has to assume the lead is a grey product.

    *****
To put into simple terms; If the lead is Australian approved, a 15A plug fitted by an electrician and a 15A GPO available, then you do not have a problem.

**** Without putting Mal at odds with sponsors, but calling upon his Qualifications and knowledge. I am sure he would be in full agreement with what I have stated.

All to often, agents and re sellers are provided some level of advice or documentation and take this on face value. When in-fact it may have been provided with best intentions but assumptions have been made or conclusions drawn from lack of understanding and the information is incorrect!  As per many legal issues, Ignorance is NO excuse in the eyes of the law.

Further more there is plenty of conflicting views and half truths that just compound the issue. Even many electricians will not have a full understanding of all the regs.  They will focus on those that impact on their day to day work.

A physical inspection, accompanied by all the manufactures  documentation etc is the only way the relevant Electrical authority can issue an Australian compliance certificate.

Andy had to go through this with the roaster and even if one has certification certification for one model, a new certification has to be issued if a new model differs in particular performance  or manufacturing processes.

My insurance will be valid if an approved electrical compliance by a recognised authority is available and I am using in accordance with the user manual/instruction.   But I doubt that the word of a sponsor or two, stating that it is safe, would carry much weight.

This issue is now out in the public arena (CS and other places) and I am sure that any solicitor would be rubbing their hands with glee, should the worse case happen and property get damage or some one get hurt.

Ignore me if you wish, but at least check your system out and contact OR take your system into your local electrical authority for inspection.  Just remember to advise that the option to set for operation that requires a current draw of more than 10A is user configurable.

    Quality Man

    Ouch!
Yes I am aware of the apparent irony in aking about compliance issues as the owner of an extensively modified popper. Just to set the record straight on that:
I am confident my popper is electrically safe
My popper is unlikely to be fully compliant
    My popper is NOT certified
    BUT...
I am not selling my popper
It is a work of art, for strictly ornamental use and is not intended be plugged in to mains voltage. ;D

I have reread the thread and cant see any clear statement from Chris that existing machines are compliant and certified as such, only an implication that new stock is (he doesnt explicitly say new stock is compliant and certified).

Perhaps Ive missed something though - wouldnt be the first time. Feel free to correct me and include quotes
