I tell my girlfriend this, but she scoffs and insists on using her breville kettle which you can heat to different temperatures Roll Eyes

Good excuse to get a dual boiler machine Mischa. With PID of course

You could just use the coffee machine to draw water for teas?

I tell my girlfriend this, but she scoffs and insists on using her breville kettle which you can heat to different temperatures
And does she ever change the temperature?

probably changes temperature as much as folks with PID machines change their temps.

to put a timer on a 3 phase system you need a timer + a 3 phase contactor all in a miniature dometic style switchboard - or you can fit these items at the main switchboard if there is enough space. but then the time would be at the main board and maybe not so convenient.

Anyone know if you can get a timer for 3phaze power. Would it be a good idea to put a commercial 3group machine on a timer to save $$$

If its in a commercial situation, far better to use a commercial/industrial solution.... Not many CSers would have the need for 3-Phase mains supply at home, I wouldnt have thought.... :-?

Re: Electricity bill to leave your machine on all day

I lagged my boiler some time ago. I worked out ages ago that it used something in the order of a dollar a day. I leave mine on 24 hours a day. Its like a living thing in the kitchen. It is much cheaper having it do both coffees and teas than to use a kettle for tea and a smaller machine eg Silvia or Em6910 for coffees.

                Cheers

i made a little guide once for ebay parts for a high wattage diy timer.   If anyone is interested i could try and dig it up.  Im a control systems electrician so i like building little things like that.

Very interesting stuff, i wouldnt mind steering myself in the control systems engineering direction at some stage.

Re: Electricity bill to leave your machine on all day

I can also confirm that if your boiler isnt insulated, and you perform this relatively easy modification, then the element off time increases and so over the course of a day, you use less power. The actual saving will vary between different machines, of course, but the running cost saving is worth while, and (as Mal noted above), there is the additional gain of extending the life of the electronics due to less heat transfer into them.

if you do leave the machine on all day, putting a towel around the e61 group would certainly save power.  i am using this idea to get the machine warmed up quickly in the morning...
