Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
Re: Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
I love that the tank refill point is at the front and it will be easy to use. Now Im wondering can you remove power cord or some thing to stop people using if they dont know how to use it. I wil be training minimal people how to use little handy to stop problems occurring. I am starting to become a coffee snob now. My husband and I would love to have a Rocket at home now. Thank god Tax time is coming. ;D

The Lanna is a good pickup. Weve not had to send it back for any repairs and Talk Coffee is at the other end of Australia compared to us! My boss wouldnt dream of parting with it either, she loves it too much!
Weve used it for things like Relay for Life events, Garden Club events and pre school fun runs. Teamed up with a decent grinder like a Mazzer, youll not go wrong! 30 drinks is easy for it, as long as you can keep up the water! (which is no big deal either)

Ahhh, didnt look close enough, Chris is right, thats the old analog model.
The SJ in the for sale section is a really good deal (even if you need to freight it), theyre pretty bulletproof too (mine was a 9+ year old, low use ex-commercial evilbay pickup, needed a good clean but the burrs were in good condition and theyre built like tanks), worst case youd need to budget another ~$50-60 to replace the burrs but youre still well within your budget.
Re: Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
If its a mini-e, be careful. I wouldnt be paying $1100 for the old analogue model.
I think a SJ would be more appropriate in this scenario. The mini is too slow for a run of more than four coffees if people are waiting. There is a bargain SJ to had in the for sale section.
Re: Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
Hmmm, $3k for the machine from a $4k budget, I assume youd be wanting a doser grinder for that sort of environment?
$1k gives you plenty of scope; Mazzer Mini, K3 Elite, Macap M4/M5, are all achievable.
Since buying my SJ Ive developed a liking for Mazzers, I like the sprung upper burr carrier as it seems to allow for that bit more consistency in the grind.
If you dont want a doser the Mazzer Mini-e *might* be achievable (Coffee-a-Roma as a quick example has it listed curently for $1,099.00 which is a small stretch over your budget) if you look around, the Vario is also in your price bracket but from what Ive read "its good, but its not *that* good".
Probably worth discussing the options with the machine supplier, they might be able to get a package together for you.

Now next important equipment to go with lanna handy a grinder. I only need a little one but I need it to last and grind a nice coffee. What is the point of a beautiful machine if I buy a doggy grinder.

I have a pura tap at home and will be filling up bottles for my baby.
Hi Canteen, check that your puratap softens the water specifically otherwise you need to buy another water softening filtration system that can attach to the puratap. Check with Bernard from Bombora who is a site sponsor here. He helped me get the correct water softening filtration system which could be used together with the puratap.
From memory I think this was the one I ended up with which attaches after the puratap.
Re: Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
Thank you I am from Adelaide. I went and had a look today. It is perfect for what we need. I am talking with a company who specialises in maintaining machines not selling them. I have a pura tap at home and will be filling up bottles for my baby. (If school lets me have it). Thank you for your input. will keep posted. Any way little eves dropping at the coffee shop. A lady came in with this beautiful machine. Expobar one of the shiny one. Technican proceeded to ask questions. How long have you had the machine? 4 years. What is wrong? It melted her plastic water tank. Ok How often do you use this machine? Every day. Best of All How often do you back wash the machine? I never have I lost the manual. I almost fell over and so did the technican. What is the point of buying nice coffee beans and a nice machine if you dont clean it. Yuk.
Re: Which group and machine would suit a mini school cafe?
A word of warning.
I would be hesitant to buy a machine from Adelaide, if you are in Sydney or wherever (insert here any other example of a quasi business situation in timbucktoo, purchasing a machine from godknowswhere).
This is because if and when you have some kind of service inconvenience and need some kind of help particularly while it is under guarantee, you wont be wantning to pack the machine up and send it back to godknowswhere. You will be wanting PROMPT attention from some kind of nearby service provider.
If that in effect means, that you have to pay more to get something in your local area with service, I would consider that to be a calculated intelligent decision, rendering the fact that you might get something cheaper out of area, irrelevant.
If of course the best price is in Adelaide, and you are in Adelaide, well and good.
